how can i quiet down my exhaust?

So i finally got my built 383 running and i put on my exhaust, which is a pair of spintech sportsman mufflers with 2.5 inch piping. My problem is that it is extremely loud still, like barely quieter than straight off the headers. So my question is, what other exact mufflers or resonators can i add to the system to quiet it down some but still have a nice deep throaty sound? I was looking into glass packs, but i'm not sure how much those will reduce the noise. how far from the mufflers should i put the resonators to help make it quieter? Someone told me that if you put the resonator too close to the miffler, it doesn't help reduce the loudness of the exhaust.

Run some borlas or magnaflows and if that's still too loud, some resonators. NOT glass packs. All this assuming you already have an x pipe.

From my past experience, the resonator will decrease tone....making it deeper. I have used them well before the muffler and it seems to do the job quite nicely.

my intention is not to use the glass packs in place of the mufflers a currently have, but as an addition to the entire system. So the system would consist of 2 glass packs and 2 mufflers, essentially making the glass packs the resonators. Isn't that all that a resonator is, just the same as a glass pack? if not then, where would i get some resonators from online because summit does not sell them?

There is a difference between glass packs and resonators. The internal structure is whats different.

thanks for those links, but now my question is how far from the mufflers do they need to be installed? can they be installed right before the mufflers or do they need to be a certain distance away from the mufflers in order to get the most out of them?

Thats a good question. I have been installing then about 2 feet ahead..... or as far forward as I could. I honestly don't know how much it would make a difference. That is something I have not experimented with yet.

Yeah, I like the vibrant resonators too. I also install the resonators ahead of the mufflers at least 2 feet. You want to break up the sound bit by bit. If you run just 2 restrictive mufflers, one per side, your note suffers along with flow. Glasspacks have louvers inside and resonators don't. So if they call something a resonator and it has louvers, it's a glass pack. Glass packs are just a bad design and the more air you try to shove through it, the more it multiplies backpressure. A straight through muffler is what you want.

I hate the drone of the Spintech mufflers. They are really Pro Street mufflers. You can try a X Pipe which will cancel 6 DBs or so, but at the end of the day you need some Magnaflow's or Corsa's

Read this article, complete with 1/4 mile comparisons, backpressure, and noise levels on mufflers. I followed this article, and with headers, some people think my car is too quiet. (My wife does not). I am very happy with the choice.

I just ordered all of my exhaust components for my camaro (Lemons headers, 3.5" pipe/flanges/elbows, and spintechs) and am considering these resonators in addition to also keep noise levels lower. I dont know if anyone has used something like these, but just a thought.

YES. I have your same setup and I have been hearing the same thing about DynoMax....
come spring I will be installing the DynoMax Super Turbo #17733.
