i finally found a place that sells a rebuild kit for the leaky hydroboost in my 84 Buick Regal T Type. but they only list one kit for hydroboost with no specific models listed.
so, are they all pretty much the same, and is a home rebuild something that is easy to do?
and, yes, i know that i can just get a reman unit from NAPA or Uutozone or wherever- but being the broke cheap ass car guy that i am, i'd prefer to do it myself and use the $50 i save to buy other things that the car needs.

Are they all the same ?? In a simple statement... no.
There are a few different sizes out there... and it would obviously specific to your unit... but then again... I'd probably call Paul to get an education on which one your car is actually using.

Paul from hydrotech but I dont believe that there tech line is open any more.
There are differences though. If you are talking about differences in gm units I believe that some of them have a couple of different fitting sizes. I am not sure if there are other differences or not though.

Yeah, Paul... Hydrotech. Not sure about the tech line either... but his e-mail still works.
The other thing that I remember is that there are different bore sizes for different applications. The van and truck unit is different from the car unit... and the mustang unit is different from those.

the kit is just a few o-rings and a few clips- nothing to do with any specific bore size or threaded fittings that i could see.
i'm gonna call the place that has them tomorrow and see what they have to say.

called the place with the kit, and the lady seemed to think the kit would work for me.
but she also said the booster could explode and hurt me if i don't know what i'm doing, so i should get someone who knows what they are doing to install the kit.. why would a booster explode and hurt me? that made no sense- my booster doesn't have that gas charged cylinder on the side like the newer setups i've seen. it's just got a pressure line from the pump, a line that goes from it to the steering box, and the return line to the pump.

Don't you know? Everything can explode these days. Be AFRAID!!!
I've taken them apart and put them back together with old parts. Still alive.
