Proportions are all wrong now. Some cars are never meant to have wheels that big, EVER.

It looks terrible with that big of wheel on it.
Numbers matching 289, what's the point when its nowhere near stock? Block only I assume at this point.
3" exhaust - way too big for a 289
100,000 invested and it has a stock interior?
over 100,000 invested....... LOL he got ripped
I agree + if I liked it I sure wouldn't pay anything over 30,000 for it just based on the cratsmanship in the photos.
I don't mean to be so negative here but what are some people thinking?

I wouldn't pay $58k for it, much less whatever the actual reserve is, but it doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought it would when I clicked on this link.

The small size of the wheelwell openings on the early Mustangs clearly don't look right with 22 or even 20-inch wheels.
A set of 18s look just right on these cars.
Nice car with a horrible choice of wheel style and size.

While I do think the wheels are too big, at least it doesn't look like a donk...

That 289 must be fun on the street with a Victor Jr. intake and double-pumper carb.
Maybe the 100K spent is Canadian, since that's where the seller's from. That's "only" 80K in the US.

20k paint
3k system
and just guess but 30-40k in parts....and the rest in labor 80k is not hard to believe.

"Rear quarter panels have been stretched 4 inches so that tires can be removed easily"
Hint: When you have to modify the wheelwells to remove the tire, you've gone to far.

The sad thing is the only people that won't think this car looks stupid are guys like us and old purists that think everything should be original. Most people would compliment the owner.

Hey Hey Hey,I had to stretch my wheel opening to get the wheels to fit my Mustang.LOL. I think we were going for a different look though.I'm still not sold on my 18's,but 22's ,it definitely has that matchbox/hotwheels look. Ron

I seriously doubt this forum is full of "all original" type guys. The car looks terrible. I'd bet his turning radius is about zero. Like one of the other guys posted its all about the proportions and this guy got'em wrong. The stance is good just way too big on the wheels.

I have absolutely no problem with modifying the fenders and quarters to fit bigger rolling stock. Wheel style choice is highly individual, so I can let that go (wouldn't pay extra for it, though).
But even though it seems to be a current "Pro-Touring" style touch to tuck the tops of the tires and even part of the wheels up under the sheetmetal, I don't like it any better on cars now than I did when it was an OE styling element. Anybody remember fender skirts? Maybe not even that well, because exaggerated proportions rarely look 'right' unless you're discussing animated sketch art.
To me, it's "Pro-Touring wannabe". I'd have stopped at 17's.
Can't speak much for the rest of the build, but if you can even get custom restoration work done at ~$100/hr it doesn't take too many hours to click up each $1k.

I'll bet that IRS added some cost, quite a bit if it's been properly sorted.
I wonder how difficult it would be for an eventual purchaser to resize the rolling stock down to something sane. Not that I have anywhere near the free resources to be thinking of doing that myself, just thinking out on the keyboard . . .

Most people would compliment the owner.Guys, before jumping on Traven's comment I think he mis-typed that. The two sentences seem to contradict each other. Purists and "guys like us" aren't "most people".
In a car design sense, that car breaks the "3 tire" rule, where there should be about three tire diameters between the front and rear tires. Anything less than that starts to look cartoony.

around $5k for the rear + fabrication and installation costs as I doubt the owner ever lifted a wrench hence the $100k invested.
I got no problem with any of it being stock or original. It just seems he overpaid to have a custom 66 mustang built, I mean you can build 3 whole 66 museum quality mustangs for that price starting with nothing and buying repop parts.

That's not what I meant man. I meant most of the guys on this site car about performance and aren't going to put 22s on a mustang. Other than people like us, the only people that won't like it are the ones that think everything should be original. Other than those 2 types of people most will like it. Especially younger guys that don't know jack about performance and only want to look good.
If you guys want to see something really stupid look for the 4th gen camaros with 24s on youtube lol.

Looks a little pro street without the big motor. Not my cup of tea, but the workmanship from the pic's looks ok. With that bigger rear wheel opening, not sure what a 18" tire would look like lol. Whoever buys it might be stuck with running something bigger than a 18" out back.
Unfortunately we have all seen worse!

Not anymore...they just published that '67 Camaro ABORTION with the Toyota Supra engine in it...so I'd say their standards are now sub-standard.
Oh and yes...I cancelled my subscription.

Hee, hee, hee. With Chevy engine lovers always stuffing them in other makes, it's fun seeing them get a taste of their own medicine. Now you know how the (insert favorite make other then Chevy here) owners feel.
I was planning on letting my subscription lapse before, but now I renewed it for another year. :enguard:

That's a little harsh.
So would you feel the same about a 302 in a small British sports car? An SBC in a deuce? Or any other cross-pollination of engine/chassis? I mean hot-rodding is hot-rodding.
Me....I'd like the engine out of a diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee in a '64 Dodge 330, or a '65 Malibu wagon.
Maybe a turbo 4-cyl in a Dart?

I'm afraid that the real meaning of the term "hot-rodding" is becoming lost. Most people can't be bothered with trying to custom-fab and debug an oddball combination no matter how promising it may be once you look past the logos on the individual parts. The parts themselves couldn't much care less. Purists will hate it and probably me as well for saying this, but you do have to respect the ingenuity involved that made it happen.

How about a tricked out Aussie Chrysler "Hemi" straight 6 in a Dart/Demon/Barracuda?
Modified late model EFI Cherokee staight 6 in an AMC?
Or late model EFI Aluminum V8 Land Rover (based on the 60s Buick) in a Buick/Olds?
I'd love to see those projects.
Hot Rodding used to be taking parts from several makes and making them work. An Olds rear, Buick Tranny, Ford Flathead swapped into a Willys coupe.

I agree that these wheels just do not work on this car...
However I really don't like anything bigger than a 20" on almost any car.
Just my taste..

The Jeep I-6 is for the belly-tank salt flats racer I want to build someday.

And I think a turbo Midget engine would be awesome in a early barracuda! So I'm not exactly a purist.

I love that camaro. Any car built with quality parts that has loads of HP is alright by me, no matter what the combo. It's always refreshing to see something other than a small block chevy in a something.
