Guys,

I bought my wife an iPod shuffle for Christmas and she loves it. The only complaint so far is not being able to use it in the car! She drives a 2005 Paciifca with the factory stereo. That consists of a head unit and remotely mounted cd player. The stereo is controlable with steering wheel buttons.

I was originally hoping I could find a cable to plug into the back of the head unit with the other end just plugging ino the headphone jack. She has a short commute and is never really in the car long, so I don't think we need anything that has charging capability. I have found a couple specialty products, but theyy are 3 times what I spent on the iPod.

Am I likely to find an RCA jack on the back of the head unit that I can use for this?

Try USA Spec or Dice.

I have the USA Spec and it works great! I am able to control the iPod from the factory head unit or steering wheel plus it charges the iPod too. I will see if I can get you some links

If she's got a short commute and you have a factory radio, does it have a cassette player?

If it does and you want an inexpensive solution, get an iPod cassette adapter. Hurts the sound a tad, but cheap and better than nothing.

If it's only got a CD, you might consider the radio tuned adapter. FYI, My son was not happy with this.

Those hard wire set ups are pricey and only work with certain head units.

I've thought about telling her to just wear one of the two ear buds while driving....

I saw the product linked above, unfortunately it is about $150. Chrysler has something similar that cost about $200. Besides the fact that the shuffle was only $45 to begin with, both the high dollar products appear to come with a cable that wouldn't fit the shuffle, which means another adaptor, if one exists?

For the cost of those kits, I could just buy her a new stereo, with an AUX jack on the front, but then would probably lose the steering wheel controls.

I did find this solution to be interesting. This is why I am hoping I could find a cable to connect into the back of the factory stereo.

There is no cassette player, cd only. I don't like those FM convertor things either. I tried one before with a portable cd player and hated it. Plus again, they cost as much as the shuffle.

Maybe I'll tear the dash apart to see what my options are on the back of the factory stereo and cd unit?

Oops. I did not realize that the iPod Shuffle only had an auxiliary jack and not the regular iPod connector.

Sound quality will suffer, but you can try a FM transmitter. Just make sure you get a model with the 3.5 mm auxilary jack and not the iPod connector.

True, On my 08 Duramax it is roughlt 350-however much for a new deck, 150 for my door chimes and lights to work, and another 150 for my steering wheel controls to work. Its a never ending losing battle lol

Back when I was married, I bought my wife a 2005 Pacifica when they first came out. It had a dvd player in it, but no tv's. I wanted to install the factory screens, but the salesman told me to save money and go get some aftermarket ones....he was wrong...on a Chrysler system, you are not able to hook up aftermarket electronics(at least thats what big daddy's told me)....I went bak, made them take the whole system out....
