Well I figure I'll start a build thread. I'm home from Iraq for a month but I'll be staying over there for another year or two so I won't be doing much till I come back. But I'd like to at least show what I've got now.
Here is what I started with when I bought this car 10 years ago.

I bought this car for $1200 when I was 15. The straight six back fired through the number 6 intake valve. So I smashed the plug shut and drove it like that for about 6 months when the head gasket blew. So out came the L6

And in went a 400/t400 I pulled out of a 71 Grand Prix at the junk yard where I worked in high school. I think I had about $600 into the whole swap with gaskets, a timing chain, mounts, and a trans cross member. That engine ran fantastic.

A few years ago I came across this awesome 71 Bonneville with a 455 for $1,100 bucks. The heads on my 400 were #96 100cc heads. They have big valves, and screwed in rocker studs so they are pretty good heads. They also make about 9.0:1 compression on a 455 so I bought the Bonnie, swapped short blocks, and resold it for $1,000
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/67Firebird4-1.jpg
The 455 started making some noise right before I first went to Iraq in '05 so it was parked and hasn't moved since. I'm pretty sure it's just a bad lifter so I ordered a cam, lifters and valve springs about a month ago.

So I finally got to my house last night and this is what was waiting for me. I have plenty of time to surf the web looking for deals while I'm in Iraq lol.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00008-1.jpg
I bought the Fikses from David Sharpe on ebay. I don't know if he's a member on the board but he has a pretty sweet 69 camaro that went to SEMA a couple years ago. The wheels and tires only have about 1,000 miles on them and I got them for a hell of a deal. 18x9" and 18x11"
The Ron Davis radiator is one I bought from a member here, the fans aren't in the pic but I have them also.
I was originally going to use the LS1 in my sig but I'm not sure now. I came across that t56 in the pic over on ls1tech.com. It needs a rebuild but it was cheap. It's an LS1 t56 so it will work behind a Pontiac with the right bell housing/adaptor set up. It'll go behind one of my Pontiacs so I think I'll use the Mcleod modular bell housing to make a clean install. I think I'll stroke a 400 block, put the t56 behind it and put fuel injection on it. Then the ls1 will probably go in my 89 GTA and the 455 will go in my 79 TA.
I bought a tail panel, ram air hood, trunk floor and speaker panel but only the tail panel has shown up so far. I need some other panels too but I'll get those later on.
The cam is a lunati voodoo that is similar to a factory Pontiac 068 grind. I did some research and found out that the 455 had a 066 grind if I remember right. It was a 2 barrel carb 455 so that cam has got to go. From what I read online the 068 should be a good grind and the next more agressive factory grind was the ram air IV but from what I read I decided that it was probably too agressive for the heads and compression I have. This lunati cam has about the same duration, but a bit more lift and a bit more over lap than the 068. The springs are comp cam behive springs. They were a bit spendy but I love the theories of behive springs and wanted to try them out.

Thanks Cliff. You know....I didn't even feel like coming home from Iraq because it's such a hassle to get here, and I actually like it over there. But now that I'm home I'm pissed I don't have more time lol. I've got so much to do.
I'm going to build a frame table to throw the shell on to fix the body damage. I've also got to go pick up one more thing today that I'll show you guys. The funny thing is I wanted some I beam to make a frame table out of and figured I'd have a hard time finding some, but a lady I know just happens to have a perfect piece laying in her back yard. You've gotta love when stuff works out like that lol.

To those who like my 89, I think I'll put my LS1 in it, so I'll start a thread for that. But that'll be a while still. I got a good deal on an 01 WS6 a couple months ago too and finally got to see it when I got home. It' in worse shape than I had hoped but the body and interior are pretty good, and it was cheap. I'd rather buy a car that is good cosmetically and needs mechanical work then use the money saved to modify the mechanical parts that need work and still be money ahead. There's a link in my sig if anyone wants to check that one out.

Must be a big hassle to get home. Prob. not a direct flight to the US, any connecting flights in Europe?
But don't spend to much time on the net, time is running out get back to the garage LOL...

A couple more pics to post.
I originally wanted to fab my own front sub and rear 4 link, but I later decided to buy a C5 based sub and a G-bar....but I changed my mind again. I picked up this C5 suspension off ebay
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00036-1.jpg
I've got this 9" housing that I'm going to narrow and make a triangulated 4 link
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00022-1.jpg
I've got some fabrication experience and I took the chassis fab course at Wyotech. So I figure it would be a waste of my money to have taken that course if I don't fab a chassis lol. The frame itself will be easy it's just getting the geometry right that will be tough, but I think I can do it. Worst case scenario if I can't fab a descent sub and 4 link, I'll resell the C5 stuff and only be out a few hundred bucks for metal, then I'll buy the professionally made stuff.
This is another reason I'll be building the frame bench I mentioned above.

Well now that I've got all that posted I'll list my plans for this
Wheels: Fikse profile 5s, 18"x9" and 18"x11"
Suspension: front sub with C5 components, triangulated rear 4 link, air ride level pro kit
Brakes: Manual master, C5 front, ls1 rear (I already have a full rear setup)
Engine: Plans are to build a stroked 400 Pontiac with aluminum heads and EFI
Transmission: T56, Mcleod modular bell housing, MGW shifter
Rear axle: 9" posi, probably 3.50:1 gears
Body: Fix collision and rust damage, mini tub, 400 hood, and I'll probably keep it white.
Interior: Mostly stock but after market gauges and seats. Tilt column and after market wheel, power windows and locks
That's a pretty general run down anyway.

Test fitting my wheels to make sure they'd clear the calipers since the C5 calipers are so far outward, but it cleared fine
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00037-1.jpg
I also put my new MGW shifter in my 01 TA last night. I haven't seen them mentioned on here really, but on ls1tech.com everyone who has bought one so far loves it and prefers it over the B&M or hurst. I can't compare it to anything but the stock one but it's pretty nice. I'll use one on the 67 also

Original interior, not too bad other than carpet and headliner
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00067-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00066-1.jpg
The damage. I bought it like this in '98. It's VERY rust free, the fenders need patched behind the wheels, there is rust below the rear window, and there is a hole in the trunk but it needs replaced anyway. That's pretty much all the rust. One of the previous owners spun around on some ice and hit a pole with the back end. You can see in this pic that it's not pushed in as far as the above pic. My dad and I beat it out with a big pipe with an elbow on it and put a different deck lid on it.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00074-1.jpg
Quarters are pulled in from the damage but I'm confident they can be saved.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00072-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00073-1.jpg
This is why I'm glad they make the full trunk floor now. None of the old ones had the detail where the trunk floor meets the tail panel

Fender rust
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00077-1.jpg
This door use to be perfect, they even close like butta. I smashed in on my buddies bumper one day when it ran out of gas and I pushed it backwards into a parking spot:hand: I filled it full of bondo just to make it look half decent.

Here is the original engine. I can't part with it because it's so BA lol. Actually I got all nostalgic today. I'd love to keep this one closer to stock with the original L6 and get a 68 to modify but I have too many cars. There's also a center section that I'll probably use in the 9".
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00065-1.jpg
I bought all these C5 and LS1 brake parts on ebay cheap. I'm going to try to use the LS1 rears on the 9" but if not I'll use them on the 10 bolt in one of my other cars.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00063-1.jpg
And I took the old hood off to make way for the new one
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00078-1.jpg
I'm heading to Peru for about 10 days on thursday but I'll try to get it running tomorrow so that it will be ready to go when I get back and I can stab the new cam. It ran when I parked it but that was 2 years ago so I'll try to prime the oil pump and hopefully I don't need to clean the carb but we'll see.

Well I made it back from Peru finally. I had a blast down there and saw some awesome ancient Incan stuff.
My new starter was waiting for me so I put it in yesterday
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00331-1.jpg
I got the car started and I'm actually surprised it ran so well after sitting for the last 3 years. My Raptor can't sit for 6 months with out having to clean the carbs but I didn't have to touch the carb on the Firebird. So I swapped the cam
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00336-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/DSC00337-1.jpg
There was no snow on the ground when I went to bed so I was hoping to drive it today but it snowed last night. Hopefully it'll melt soon so I can go drive it. It sounds good with the new cam, a little rougher idle. I don't think I'll have enough time to mess with the timing and fuel curves to see how well I can get it to run. I've got 12 days and my 01 ta's diff is apart waiting on parts. And my sisters Civic just busted a piston rod, and since I'm the mechanic of the family I get to spend my precious vacation time fixing it lol.

Thanks MC
Well I'm back in Iraq. I didn't get a chance to change my valve springs and order some new pushrods. I drove it with as it is though. It ran great and it's a quite a bit quicker. I didn't dare rev it too high with the old springs in it. I've got new behive springs to put in it. It would be nice to have a dyno to see how much higher I can rev and how much more power with some beehive springs. I'm sure there's still some power to be had if I get the fuel and timing curves right.
I'll try to find a few things to do next time I'm home. I really can't do too much until I tear it all down and get started on the body, but I'll wait until I'm home for good. I don't want to leave it in pieces at my dad's house just in case he needs to move it. I plan to stay out here for another couple years so I'll just have to settle with doing a little on my vacations unless I decide to buy a house sometime soon.

Well......it's about that time again. I'm headed to Kuwait tonight to catch my flight home on Sunday.
I might be picking up another Firebird as soon as I get back and I'm gonna have to drive it across the country so if that goes down I'll have less time for the 67. Oh yeah plus I'm headed to Mexico for a bit to visit a young lady friend lol.
Anyway....my goals for this trip home are to put the t56 in, install AC and my Ron Davis radiator, wire up the fans, and get it drivable like that. If time allows install some seats, new carpet, and gauges. I want to get it enjoyable enough to drive when I'm home on leave next summer. Then when I go home for good I'll tear it all apart and really get to work.
I'm probably going to get a Gen IV Vintage Air system and March Style Track serpentine setup from Frank. I talked to Weir Hot Rod products last night about their t56 stuff but I haven't yet decided to go with his bellhousing or the Mcleod Modular one. Any input on that decision would be appreciated.

T_Raven

I'll have to measure the wheels. The guy I bought them from had them on a 69 Camaro with a stock sub frame. I'll build a frame table, set the body at ride height, put the wheels where I want them, and build the suspension from there

lol, yeah, I come home on my "vacations" and it is probably more of a journey than a trip. I fly to Kuwait, go through some bs there, wait for three days, fly from Kuwait to Spokane WA which takes a good 24 hrs including layovers, then it's still a 3 hour drive to my house. I get to reverse that all on Tuesday

Ok I want to tell you guys about the last week and how crazy it's been. Well first....I've been looking for a 69 Firebird. I also decided to sell the APS turbo kit I had for my '01. A guy in Cali wanted it and was going to drive up to get it. He lives near a buddy of mine, and I saw a 69 in the same area on craigslist for $8,000. So my buddy and I took the turbo kit down, sold it, hung out for a couple days, and I was going to buy the car and bring it back. Then decided I didn't want to spend $8,000 on it so we left it and drove alllllll the way back to northern Idaho. I went to Mexico for 10 days. My buddy lives near Spokane which is where I fly in and out of so I stayed at his house the night I got back from Mexico and was going to drive back to Grangeville the next day. That was Sunday morning, I got up and checked my email and I had one from a saved search on ebay for 69 Firebirds. There was a solid looking one in Cali with a buy it now of $2,000. I looked at my buddy Dustin, (We call him Dirty McFilthmuff lol), so I looked at Dirty and said, 'wanna go back to Cali?' He said hell yeah, so we got a sitter for his GF's kid and I drove from 8pm Sunday till 7am Monday to get us there. He was getting hammered so when he passed out I slammed some 6 hr power to stay awake till he sobered up and drove the last 2 hours.
Ok so we were back in Cali. The plan was to get the car down by Sacramento, stay the night in San Francisco, drive up the cost to Portland, and be back in Idaho late Tuesday night.
So we bought the car

Well San Fran was a pain in the arse to get out of, the highway north was wicked slow and we stopped to see some sights, the drive through tree, truck and trailer wouldn't fit so I walked through

So we decided we'd stay in Portland Tuesday night since we were behind shedule, but we ended up staying in Eugene because we were so far behind. So now it's Wednesday morning and the plan was to be home that night. We were nearing Portland when a lady we know here in Idaho called Dirt to see if he wanted to go with her to look at a Subaru in Portland! He told her we were already on our way there and I said I'd be happy to look at it for her so she doesn't waste a trip.
Now had I been on schedule I never would've been able to go look at this Subaru.
I called the lady with the car and she said she'd meet me at her house. I got there before she did and they had cars all over, including a couple old Pontiacs. She showed up, saw the Firebird on the trailer, and said, "Oh we have a few of those. We have 11 GTOs and there's a 68 Firebird at our shop that my husband is selling. I wasn't looking to buy another car but he seemed like my kind of guy so I went to check out their body shop. He shows me the 68 and low and behold it's one I had been watching on ebay!

He never had a buy it now on ebay but it's a really rusts free car and drivable so I had been watching it to see how much it went for. I asked what he wanted and he said $6500. Sounded good to me so I drove it to the bank, had them give me a cashier's check and drove that sucker home while my buddy towed the 69.

The story keeps going though lol. It was 4pm when we left Portland and my buddy talked me into going to Seattle then headed back to Idaho Thursday morning. I've been wanting to go see Lenie's 68 Firebird and he's over by Seattle so I said alright let's do it.....plus we had been trying to hit a strip club this whole trip and every time we got somewhere for the night it was already too late, so Seattle was our last chance lol.
I couldn't remember where Lenie lived and had a PM from him on here so I stopped in Tacoma to get online and try to contact him. It's just funny how the timing of this whole trip was working out. Everything was going wrong and pissing me off but it was continuing to work out for the better. So I stopped at a gas station in Tacoma near some hotels and couldn't find a wireless signal and the hotels wouldn't let me use their computers. Had that gone smoothly I would've been gone by the time the 95 Trans Am showed up to the gas station. But just before we pulled out this youger black guy pulled up in it and came over to look at mine. He said if I needed a 400 (which I do) he had left one at a house near by that he pulled out of a grand prix after he wrecked it. He said if I wanted it the older couple that bought the house would probably be happy to let me have it. It was late and I had no way to get it in the truck so I didn't bother but I still have the address so I'll have to go back next time I'm in that area and see if it's still there.
We got a room in Seattle and I didn't get to go to Lenie's house, but we finally got to see some ladies of the pole. I think we went to Deja Vu. That was one of the best places I've been too. It was full of good looking girls and they were nice and not pushy about buying dances.
Anyway....I finally made it home Thursday night. Oh one more coincidence before I got home. I went to a wrecking yard in Spokane for the first time and they had a couple LS engines in the show room as well as a turbo ecotec. I was showing it to Dirty telling him about the Chevette being built on here and the next morning I see someone had responded on that thread with a link to the ebay listing for the very engine I had seen the day before. Pretty funny because I've never been to that yard before.
I had to take Dirty back home yesterday so I stopped in Lewiston Id on the way back to see "Seekins", another member on here with a 68 Camaro. I knew he had a shop and made some things with a CNC machine but I forgot what he made. Dustin had been telling me all week about a gun smith school in Cali he wants to go to. I also want to get into machining so I can make some parts I've been thinking up. I looked up Seekins website to get the address and see he makes parts for AR-15s. And I just bought one! So how funny is all of that? lol. He makes gun parts and my buddy had just decided to become a gun smith.
It was just a funny week that delays kept pissing me off but every time it worked out for the better. Now that I've got 2 more 60's Firebirds I'll probably change direction on the 67 a little. I've got some pretty cool Ideas I don't want to give away just yet. I think I'll put the original straight 6 back in though and have v8s in the other two.

Well I've already got a 79 so I'm on my way lol. Nah the 70's were too many years. I'm DONE buyin cars!! (yeah right lol). I would like one more from the early 70's though.
What's funny is I didn't even realize, everyone calls the copper car red, so I now have "red", white, and blue 60's Firebirds. And I'd already planned to keep the 68 original and repaint the 67 white and the 69 a better blue.
Edit: That gives me an idea. We should get enough classic American cars together in red white and blue that we could park them all to make a giant flag and take an aerial shot lol.

I decided to keep track of what I spend on this car in the thread here. I've scored some used stuff and plan to fabricate quite a bit so I want to keep a list for everyone to reference. I'll put it in the first post and update it as I go along.

So humor me on this.....I really want to use the straight 6 in this thing and turbo it to get as much power as I can. Problem is I want the car to be as light as possible and I think the all iron L6 is about the same weight as an LS1 but with less power potential. So....I wonder how possible it would be to make an aluminum block and head. Anyone know of any place that could cast a block and head? I'm sure billet pieces would be doable though expensive, but they could be modified to make and handle more power. Any body who makes parts got any thoughts on it? I'm sure it'd never happen but it's a fun thought and I'd like to get a CNC mill and make some other things anyway. And even though a aluminum L6 would be spendy I'd be willing to spend some extra doe to have such a unique engine and be able to make some real power with a Pontiac OHC 6. Yeah sure a Toyota engine in a Camaro is unique and all but it'd be way cooler to have a 600 hp all aluminum L6 based on the original Pontiac design. Who knows, maybe I could start a whole new trend in the Pontiac world lol.

Hi Traven, that sounds like a wonderful idea (even if it is to explore the possibilities)!
You may wish to contact http://www.allpontiac.com/ regarding aluminum blocks and heads.
I suppose the real 'motivator' is whether there are sufficient number of folks who would want to step up and purchase the 4.1 cammer in an aluminum form.
The other option you may wish to look at is the Super Duty 4 cylinder (which is a Poncho design). These motors are still made by a company in Kansas http://www.kansasracingproducts.com/Welcome.html as racing blocks. May be another good option.
It is really great to hear that people are thinking outside the box and looking at alternative ways to make power for their Poncho's. Best of luck!

Keep an eye out for a used set and you might get lucky. I bought them on ebay and the seller paid almost $6k for the whole wheel and tire package, put maybe 1,000 miles on them, and sold them to me for $3150 shipped! I also bought a set of 17" profile 5 wheels w/o tires on ebay for about a grand less than what they would've cost new. A guy in Tacoma WA recently sold a set of 18" profile 5s's on lateral-g for a good price.

I actually found and joined that board right after I mentioned thinking about putting the 6 back in lol.
I think alot about how to save weight. It probably won't make much difference for what I'll use the car for but it's fun to figure out ways to save weight. When I finally leave Iraq I want to get a couple scales and weigh everything I can get my hands on and make a thread (unless there is one already) that we can all add to and reference.

It doesn't take too long, the main part that would keep it undrivable for a while would be having the fender off to get the heater box out and put the new block off plate in. You could have most of it done in a saturday and if you weren't totally finished you could easily be driving it again on Monday while you finish the hoses and wiring and stuff. If you don't have a crimper for the hoses you'd have to find someone to crimp them for you and take it to a shop to have a vacuum pulled on it and charge it. I don't have a crimper but EVCO House of Hose does and crimps them cheap, and I can charge it here at the shop.

It looks good though and I'll probably end up making another one down the road when I've decided what all is going into this thing. This one was good practice though.

Got my hoses crimped and installed a couple days ago. I screwed up at the compressor though. The fittings that go on the compressor were in my storage unit so I thought the high and low side fittings were on opposite sides and mocked up the hoses wrong. I got them to work with a little bending and I can get both hose connectors on for the AC machine, but it wasn't as pretty as if the fitting were opposite of how they are. These will get replaced later anyway when I add a bulk head to the firewall. I want to use a plate like Cris from JCG did on Blu Ballz.

Spent the last couple days wiring the AC and the radiator fans so nothing exciting there, all my wiring will be replaced later on too but it works for now.
Bought some dba C5 rotors to put on the front. I'm going to cut the drums off my hubs so the rotors will slide on, then make adaptors to use the calipers off my wrecked 00 I used for my 89 LS1 swap. Here are the rotors. They are being sold pretty cheap on ebay because dba switched to a new design

Nothing lately. bought a house in november, then went to Mississippi for a month for work. House is a dump so I've been working on it since I got back. 4 bd 3.5 bth, 2 car garage with attached 27x42 shop, big yard. It was a foreclosure so I got a decent deal. Last occupant smoked like a chimney so I've been scrubbing the walls and getting them ready for paint. ripped out all the carpet. So any way going to be busy with the house for a while and I got another job over seas so I'll be gone for a while. But I finally have my own house and shop so when I get back and get the interior of the house done I can finally take the car completely apart and fix the body. Plus I should have some money for parts thanks to the new job. Hoping to fix the body, build the suspension I want, put the t56 in, put my DFI on, get the brakes I want, and paint it. that will take care of everything but the interior and engine.

List of what I'm planning to buy when I get back. This will probably change by the time it happens, but
Rebuild kit for the t56
Quicktime bellhousing
9 in with al center section
Driveshaft
GMR full floater set up
Baer 6 piston brakes, not sure if I want 13" or14" rotors
Build a sub frame using the C5 suspension I have and a mustang steering rack
Gas task, haven't decided what yet
Corbeau LG1 seats
Last few body panels I need and paint
I'll make due with the engine, exhaust, and interior for a while. Haven't decided yet but I might widen it like the 68 JCG is building. I already plan to do my 68 like that so I might leave the 67 stock, but I've been to Cris's shop and loved how mean that 68 looked in person. Blue balls was there too and was much wider. I liked the subtle look of the Firebird a lot and would love to do it to my 67

Lol, nah don't plan to any time soon. I've got things in store for the 67 and 69 as soon as I'm done setting up my shop.

I like this look. The wheels are a very PT style which is cool. So what is the progress? Also how did the seats turn out? Did they last and are they good? I will be looking for some within the next year.

Thanks man, I really like these wheels and think they look pretty good on the car. It's funny how a set of wheels can look good on one car and stupid on another, so I'm glad I found a set I liked. The seats are currently just sitting in my house. They are definitely cheap. I've got some money set aside for some more parts so I'll probably be getting the Corbeaus that I want. I'll probably put the cheap ones in one of my other cars that are lacking seats.
I've been working on my house since March and I'm finally almost done with everything inside the main floor. Just wrapping up a few details in the bathroom now. I took the engine, trans, and axle out of the 67 and put the engine in my 72 TA clone. I picked that up a few months ago and the engine in it had some issues, so with the 67 apart I can at least put that engine to use and keep the 72 on the road for now. My 69 is on my rotisserie. I'm going to finish the mini tubs, floor patch and sub frame connects, paint the floor, and put it back on it's suspension so I can roll it around again. Then I'll get back to the 67. After all these years I finally have a place to take it apart and do the body work. I've got all the parts I need on hand. I've also got everything I need to build a new chassis and suspension, so I'll do all that, body and paint, and get it to a nice painted roller and work on saving for the engine I want to build and redo the interior as I go later on.
Here it is currently on my frame bench with all the drive train out.

Traven, a lot going on, been there. When remolding the house, leaves little time for cars but end the end it all gets done and well worth the wait. Awesome group of vehicles, can't wait to see the outcome. While your at it, throw up a few pics of the remodel. Good luck.

hey T, busy guy! Frame bench is looking good. I'm in the same boat with a new house. It really keeps you away from doing what we suppose to. But the end of the tunnel is there, some 2 more months and we can wrench again (parts on the way )Keep us updated.

Well it's been way too long since I've done anything to this car. This is my baby and I've had it for 18 years and haven't built it how I want it yet lol. I've been back in Afghanistan for the last 16 months with no plans to leave yet.
I needed the 67 back out of the shop, so I set it on a spare frame and rolled it out. I stashed most of my cars in the back too so I could have my driveway redone.

Since I have lots of down time here, and I'm only here for the money, I keep a spread sheet of my goals and, of car parts I plan to buy. I was just home a few weeks ago, so I bought a bunch of the stuff on my list that doesn't need custom measurements. This car is my biggest priority when I finally go home, so I want to get most of what I need on hand, ready to go, and once it's bought I can't spend the money on something else and delay this project further lol.

I already had C5 front suspension to build a sub frame with. I was always planning to build a 3 link in the rear, but decided I might like IRS better. Rear C5 suspension is cheap, so I bought a set (forgot to take a pic) to go with the front stuff. I think I'll need to modify the upper A arms, or build new ones, but the lowers and spindles should work fine. I'll be using a Mark VIII 8.8" IRS housing. They came in 28 spline, but the Ford racing 31 spline diff is cheap and a good upgrade. I bought a diff and new 33 spline C6/C7 hubs. I'm planning to run megasquirt and use the traction control feature. It just needs a wheel speed sensor on each end, so I bought 2 hubs with sensors, and 2 without since they are cheaper. The car needs rear frame rails and a trunk floor anyway. So I'm thinking I'll build a full frame, possibly out of round tube, rather than just a sub frame and tying it in with connectors. Even if I scrap the IRS plans, I can still use the hubs on a 9" housing with the oppropriate housing ends, and use the 8.8" diff on the TA that's getting a 8.8". So I went ahead and got the hubs and diff.

I've always planned to put 14" 6 piston Baer brakes on it. I ordered front and rear sets for a C5.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2016/06/opTOegF-1.jpg?3
I didn't know if they'd fit my wheels, but they are the brakes I need to run, so I ordered without checking fitment. They just barely touch the caliper, so I'll have to run a little spacer. No big deal though. I stole the tires off the fronts for my GTA. I bought the wheels used and the fronts were only 8.5" wide with a 255 tires. I ordered new 1" wider inner rim halves. They aren't done yet, but I'll put those on with 275/35/18s up front and I've got 315s on the rear.

Bought some leather Corbeau LG1s
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2016/06/yDq9hUD-1.jpg?1
I ordered a T56 Magnum. It didn't show up until after I came back over here, but my wife sent me a pic of the box lol.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2016/06/zGjFf9m-1.jpg?2
I've now got most of what I want. Coilovers, drive shaft, and axle shafts will have to wait until I've got the suspension set up. I'll still need paint, sway bars, a bunch of stainless bends to build some headers and exhaust, and various little things.
I'm planning to build an all aluminum 505 Pontiac. That's a big chunk of change, so I'll wait to buy all of that until I'm ready for it. Not sure when I'll go home for good, but I need to wrap up a few small projects and then finally fix the body and build the chassis. I want this thing done by our 20th anniversary lol. Where does the time go? It's crazy to think I've had it 18 years, and worse is that it was only drivable for maybe 4 years total.

Guess I never posted a pic. It's kinda crude and I'll change it later. Idk yet if I want to build a completely new dash or just modify the center to hold gauges and a head unit.
