What a crazy 24 hrs it's been...

Yesterday at 3:30 pm, I lost my job with a family owned lumber company that I had been with for the past six years. They laid me off as well as six other people.

At 6:01 this morning I welcomed my 2nd son into the world.

I really didn't get upset about losing my job when it happened given the state of things. But once he arrived in the world I couldn't help but break down. I felt a little ashamed about the prospect of my son entering the world with his father not having a job. But after having the chance to hold him and spend some time with him, I've realized that this is what's important. Jobs come and go and I will get another one. I am fortunate to have a wife that not only gave me two beautiful sons, but has a great career. We have some money tucked away so that will help get us through the interim. But man this a lot to take in in such a short time.

More importantly, momma and baby are doing fine. Ryan Lee was 3 weeks early but weighed in at 6.4 oz/19-1/2" long. Mom was a champ. She woke me up at 2 in the morning and had him at 6. this kid wanted OUT! The doctor had to keep telling her not to push as he was still getting his scrubs on.

Congradulations on the new baby. as far as being ashamed for being out of work you shouldn't be .If their was work and you didn't want to work thats different. Enjoy your son. Like you said work will come.

Congratulation on the addition to your house. If the wife has a good stable job then it might be time to be Mr Mom for awhile, had a friend go to college while his wife worked and he got to be the stay at home parent. My friend loved the time he spend with the kids.

I was without a job and free when my third rolled around. Played Mr. Mom also and it was the best time of my kids childhoods I got to see and be more a part of then if I was working. If you can afford it try it out, might be looked back upon as a great decision. Congrats.

Well, it must have been meant to be. As soon as my wife returns to work from maternity leave, I get a job. We were both out of work for about the same time (I won't start until the 16th).

The pay isn't as good as what I was making, but man what a relief. I'll be the paint shop supervisor for The Citadel (military university here in Charleston). The hours are great and it's a state job with some perks and cheap insurance so it's not that big a paycut as I thought.

As for the kids they are doing great. The little one is getting bigger everyday. I really do consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to spend 2 months with them.

I also have been able to work on getting the car back together here and there, but with only unemployment, it's been a little hard to justify buying parts. I'm hoping my wife will let me take the rest of the time off I have to make a full court press on it until I have to start work.

Great news! Glad to hear its already working out. I went through the same thing a year ago, and I know the empty feeling you're talking about (my daughter was 1). Things are working out for me too, and I have that self-assuredness back again. It's a weight lifted off, that's for sure.
