Hey guys,

Some may remember that I kinda sorta got an 86 Chevy pickup for Christmas. Well me and dad had to drive up to Jacksonville and trailer it back, I was fine with that. Well we get it home for the first week it was literally the only thing we drove, we changed the motor oil and filter, put some ATF in it, cleaned it up a bit, and just drove it. Well it has never gotten good oil pressure when it was dead cold when it would finally get to where it would stay idling it would only read like 30 PSI well by the time it would get to about 110 that would drop to 10 PSI. Dad says maybe a cam bearing going bad and the guy that built the “383” put what we thought was a massive cam in it and just never put new bearings in it. Well we tried to hold it off as long as we could but when it would read 4-3 pounds in traffic we said ok lets just pull the motor put new gaskets, bearing and clean and repaint the block and heads. So to make a long story short we pull the motor tear it down, to find the massive is a rather small Lunati .480 on IN and EX with 1.5 rockers, then I noticed that all the pistons are 40 over but the one piston and rod looks different well some body put 7 new rods and pistons in it. And the best part is crank is the stock cast crank so it is no 383. Well when I was tearing it down the first bearing was completely trashed it was worn down to the point that without a doubt it was not far off of seizing the crank has a good little bit of “scoring” on it. So needless to say we are kind of bummed because the motor would take a little more work then what we thought. But we do have a new plan we have a boat that we are trying to sell with a 400 in it… All scat bottom end, I think world iron heads, the good stuff and all we really have to do is swap out the marine cam and toss a carb on it, and if I had to make a guess I would say the 400 has probably got a good 50 to 80 more horsepower on the old motor so we will see what it has for the truck.
