Davids deal was that he wanted to ONLY be the Editor of HR.. he didn't want to mess with other books since it was too many distractions.

Funny since he left HR I've gotten to know him better. I think the whole process mellowed him out a bit. He's actually a pretty cool guy and he REALLY knows his stuff on putting out a magazine.

I guess he's stuffing the chute back in the bag.. lol

I discovered Freiburger had teeth after he left the magazine. [teeth - smile-get it?-nevermind!] I beleive him to be one of us...he has already proven he would do this gig for nothing [because he did just that over the past year]. I have seen him and Chad work 70 hours straight to finish a project to get to a show...because they had promised to be there. I have also seen him do that same thing, and then hop in the truck to drive overnight to retreive a spare part to fix his Camaro at Bonneville...just because he wanted to compete.
You may not agree with his taste, [I don't always] but you should find it hard to disrespect his talent and integrity.

BTW...it is my understanding that David will be editorial director and Rob Kinnan will remain as editor of Hotrod. I'm not either so I can't comment on how that goes, but it looks like we'll enjoy the benefits of BOTH of their talents. HELL yeah!

David took a lot of pictures of my car at the season opener of the ECTA in 06 and used 2 - 2 page pics in the Sept 06 issue. There were a lot of other cars there that were really cool (and faster) he could have used.

Hot Rod as well as some other mags co-sponsor races and go take pics at them. If we don't take our cars to those kinds of events they're not going to be seen. There's a lot of really cool cars on this site but how many actually show up at a "race"?

I know I mostly go to open track days, test and tunes, and HPDE events. There's no magazine guys there so they don't see the cars. When Johnny Hunkins saw my car (at a NMCA drag race) he picked it as editors choice and gave me a cover and feature. I told him "there's lots of nicer cars over in the show area" his reply was "ya, but you're racing yours!". Now keep in mind my car was only running high 13's! (but I did win all my races) To get a picture of the car on a road course for the article he had to buy one from a photogagrapher that does HPDE events where I'd run.

So my cars been in 3 national magazine issues, and only because it was at a race supported by the magazines. (hint hint for you guys dying to get your cars in.)

The big shows they go to are overwhelming and the big name builders get the attention especially if they've built something "different". So seeing another (insert car name here) built at home isn't going to warrant a photos at a big show. It's not that they don't like our cars, there's just bigger fish in that pond. So we're just not putting ourselves in the best places as a group.

There's getting to be a few PT/G machine type events now that have been gaining in popularity. The only one I went to was the XV one last year and it was raining so hard I didn't even take the car out of the trailer. But I digress. Maybe if someone on this board covered some of the PT events and submitted them to HOT ROD and other mags we might get some more coverage as a group/style. Perhaps Steve could offer a little insite into how those kinds of things work.

Anyway I let my subscription expire but I think I'll start it again and see how it is with David back.
