Any hotel suggestions for SEMA this year or tips on a first timer?

depends on your budget?..i always liked to stay in the middle of the strip ..that way walking either direction is not so bad..

We usually stay at the riviera, sahara or circus circus depending on price and then its walkable to the show. They are not exactly top shelf rooms though if thats what your looking for.

Only place I've ever stayed at Vegas was at the Imperial Palace so I guess anything is a step up.

Oh no, there are far worse places. When they use a paper bathmat, you've hit rock-bottom.

The decision is driving/walking/shuttle bus. I hate the shuttles and parking starts at $15/day. If the PT dinner is at the Best Western again, I'll likely stay there even though the accomodations are not the greatest. The convienence is great.

Taxis are a good thing in Lost Wages.

I'd take a taxi without any objections.

I like to stay at hotels that are on the monorail.
Makes getting to and from the show very easy.

Not saying the Imperial wasn't nice. I just knew it was one of the lower end spots on the strip.

Stayed at the Palms. Took the free shuttle, 10-15 mins to get there. A lot of the hotels offer shuttle service so it isn't bad to get down there and back.

Catching a cab once the show is over can be challenging!

I have never stayed in the same Hotel twice in Vegas, but the last time I went I stayed at Planet Hollywood. It is in a good semi-central location and the rooms are decent.

Treasure Island was a good place this year. After SEMA this year we would cab it back but walk between there and Margaritaville. If we all got together here they would give us a great room rate. I stay there for the Int'l Security Conference every year also and have always had a great room.

Great if you like to get out and walk around at night instead of being stuck in one casino.

Venitian sucks...it takes way too long to get to your room. Too big but great to visit.

For my money, and I mean that literally, it is Harrahs. It's in the middle of the strip and on the monorail and has a self parking garage if you have or rent a car. We have even stayed 5 miles out of town at a condo and rented a car and parked at Harrah's garage so we could take the monorail to the show. Believe me, there's no place to park at the show.

I'd take a taxi without any objections.

You'll object when you see the cab line at the show every day! I've heard horror stories! Last year's recession show was the first time I've heard of someone getting through it under 20 minutes.

Stay walking distance, Marriott, Riviera or Hilton, otherwise someplace on the monorail which is super convenient.
