Slow in fast off, always be smooth, And always remember that the chassis and tires can only do so much work. So try not to upset it with sudden moves be it steering input, baking, shifting or acceleration. When going into a corner I get on the brakes, smooth increasing to a hard push. It is all one movement nice and smooth but it ends up being quick, just not like jumping on them And then once the chassis is set downshift to the proper gear for the corner. Roll out of the brakes and smoothly apply power. When you look at the track work backward from the longest streaight on how to attack it as the last corner before the longest straight is the one you want to get right the most so you can carry the most speed onto it. Then you can work back from there to figure out your line. Late appex is almost always the best bet.

Make sure your brake pad and tire selections are good. One problem area for these Time Attack and time trial events, you don't get a lot of warmup time (1 lap normally) before the hot run, not enough time to really properly heat the tires or brakes. It's easy to get in trouble that way.
As far as driving, if you can get your car to a club driving school- do it, you'll learn the car and driving. You should never be coasting, which is easier said than done at first. Slow down to go fast, work on smoothness first.
