Im wondering if anyone has painted or powder coated any vintage wheel soworks wheels. Specifically the V40 or V48. I think grey or black centers would look good on my orange camaro.

Popular Hot Rodding did a story in the 4/07 issue where they painted their VWW wheels on the '68 Chevelle with Dupli-color high performance wheel coating and they came out great. For what it's worth Team III centers are painted from the factory not powder coated. I think with proper prep painting them will hold up fine.

I painted the centers of the ones on the Fairlane and they came out great. The story was in PHR and I used the same Duplicolor wheel paint.

Use fine-line painters tape for better results.

Power is better but the rattlecans cost me $20 and powder would have been around $400 due to the masking involved.

Steven,

The wheel came out looking sharp!! How resistant is the paint to chipping? Did you need to put any kind of primer coat? I have some chrome wheels that are looking pretty ratty and wondering if you can use this paint over chrome?

thanks,
Johnny

I'm painting the centers of my V48's, etched primed first then high build primed and sanded (to smooth out the sandblasted finish) next is a BC/CC. I'm doing a dark silver color and a grey scotch brited outer rim to replicate the original one piece painted/machine polished vintage wheels.

If you are going over chrome I would scuff it up a bit and a primer might be a good idea although I don't know what type.

I did several coats and it seemed like it would hold up well. Not as well as powder, but fresh paint is only a rattle can away. lol
