What are some automotive things that you like that might get you made fun of on this board?

For instance, I like a taller stance than what most on this board would consider acceptable. Wide tires and tall enough to not worry about collectors raking a speed bump if I'm not paying enough attention. I find myself torn between what I like and what functions best (lowered for handling).

Oh, and I confess...... I like........ 15 in. wheels. There I said it.

So, there is my admission. Now what are yours?

LOL, I confess to small fat rims too. If I wasn't driving on tracks that much I'd love to do an old school Trans Am 69 Mustang on 15/16" balloons, spiced with modern tech. But there's no denying the advantages of low stiff sidewalls in a tire.

Ya man the old Pontiac 455 with a Qjet is not "in style" between the fenders of the bird but I love it. I also tend to like my car some what higher than the cool guys do. I did get a few 4X4 jabs when I was building it.

I know it is sometimes frowned upon by people, but I HAVE to have a good stereo in all my cars. I'm not talking about anything ridiculous like you'd see on "unique Whips", but something with a nice sub/amp combo and an i-pod interface. Just enough bass to rattle my rearview mirror, not to be heard down the street. Sometimes the cammed LS1/blower whine soundtrack isn't enough for me :headbang:

Between the SUVs and the Minivans, regular old vans get ZERO respect these days.

A sidepiped mural van with a full PT drivetrain/suspension sure would be fun though.

In 1989 way back before 'Pro-Touring' was coined I was driving this '66 VW Type II pickup daily. It has '84 Corvette 16X8.5s with 205/55-16s all around, the sixteens were considered huge back then.

Currently being held prisoner in the back corner of my garage.

That Type II is the first one I've seen w/o rust. You have a miracle my friend right in your garage. You'd be surprised at the number of 40+ year old vehicles out here in So Cal that are rust-free. I have a '70 Chevy C20 pickup that's just as rust-free, just another one of the benefits of living in paradise.

I love a loud exhaust on a muscle car, but hate them on droning 4 bangers.

I hate project names on cars, just have a nice car and be happy about it. You don't have to call it Project Death Storm to have it be cool or feel menacing.

I too am not a fan of carbon fiber on a muscle car. I love it on a Subaru, but a Camaro?

LS motors are goofy looking, it's to bad they work so well.

The stock gauges in a 67-68 Camaro look better then anything I have seen that you can replace them with.

Clean/Flush firewalls make a car look fake.

I don't understand spending over $50,000 on any vehicle, unless it makes over 500HP, runs on water, actively cleans the environment while you drive, and gold coins fall out of the tail pipe every 50 feet. (I still like to look at all your expensive cars though ;-) )

Am I still allowed to hang out here?

wait... you can name your car when you no longer drive it ( and not because it doesn run at the moment ) ... if you still drive your car you can only call it what it is,, or by what year it is...
for example .. the camaro or the mustang .. or my 67 ..68... 72... espically if you have dirffrent years of the same model.

I think car names are pretty ridiculous, but necessary to differentiate your Camaro from all the rest. Actually, the names often aren't so bad, but why must they all be "Project" something? That's what gets me.

I dig cars that sit "right", no matter what size wheel or tire they're on.

Just because a part is Carbon Fiber or aluminum doesn't mean it belongs on the car.

I like it when all the hose ends and fittings are the same color... I'm not big on blue, red, and purple. The black ones are expensive, but you can strip the blue and red with oven cleaner and a buffing wheel, leaving a nice matte silver.

Just because something is "fabricated" doesn't mean it's right.

Some carbed cars run as well as EFI cars without the setup and tune time.

Old motors are cool.. Nailheads, AMC, Olds, Cads, Pontiacs, Buicks.. even early small block Chevys. Almost every BBC is cool. You don't need a new motor transplant to be cool. Just make whatcha got run right. (Although new motors are killer as well.)

I think the best part of the PT scene is the the underlying requirement that the cars need to run right and are expected to be driven hard! That's cool anywhere!

I like a fat 'ol carbureted big block Chevy, which is not the best choice for corner carving (or MPG) in this sea of lightweight LSx conversions.

I'll second this a second time. There's nothing more disapointing than an awsome looking p/t car with an engine that looks like a peanut. (LOL). The future of performance is here in the form of the LS motors ( I may still go that route with my build) but nooooothing beats the look of wall to wall big block dressed in "kick your butt" attire!!

Fun topic. Here are a few of my likes and dislikes, not sure if it fits the topic exactly but gotta get it off my chest.

Bench seats (for the ladies), bitchin stance (could be 15 inch wheels up to 20 inch wheels. a killer stance is a killer stance), I like old school & new school. Not sure how that works out. This website changed the direction of my car but I still love the look of "non-tubbed" big and littles. K.I.S.S. I agree with some of you too on the stereo, A nice small system with good power and a small sub is a must. If the stereo sucks just leave it out, but don't take up your entire trunk with stereo equipment either. Not a fan of blinged out cars, the streetfighter style seems to fit for me but a car can have chrome if it is done classy. I hate "noisy" geardrives.
I like technology and it is part of hotrodding but please if you want leather heated seats, climate control, cruise control, ABS and all the other crap that is in a new corvette or mustang just buy one of those. Well I don't have all day so I will stop here for now.

Painted (body color - not black) 4 wheel drums with 20" wheels. You can put $1000s in rims and sometime even more by bagging the suspension and you can't put on decent brakes? Not to mention you just added a bunch of rotational weight for those drums to deal with.

I hate to say it, but its true.....
Those who spend more time on the computer than in the garage. If you logged in to your tool box as much as you do to your computer, your car would already be done!

I LOVE IT!!! I'm guilty, but I love it!

I hate snow and cold weather.

Not really a PT Foul, but it sure feels like one when you can't get out in your garage and enjoy your project.

1.3 million dollars to build?! The discharge side of the intercoolers are too hot to touch and it pukes coolant on track day...? Money well spent.

i hate cars built to sale.

i hate it when someone buys a car just to resale it.

people that pay more for paint than drivetrain

and above all i hate fake PATINA. the only reason patine is cool in the first place is because that car has been there and done that.

and above all. i love old ****ty cars. when i bought my 68 firebird with the rusted out floor and extremely hot 455 headers rite under my feet and wide reverse mags. i can honestly say i loved driving that more that any of my finished cars i've had

I hate when people do not use propper grammar. Like knowing when to use the word sell instead of sale. And also resell not resale.

That's because you can't buy friends like us, you just have to be one to have one.

I'll drink to that!

I really like the look of "Day 2" builds, using era-correct speed parts (even if they suck by today's standards). Those cars are way cool to look at, but I couldn't own one since I've caught the "handling" bug.

Straight-axles, tunnel-rams, sun-tachs, 4" wide front cragars, Cheater-slicks, lakewood ladder bars, etc... That stuff is very cool to see on someone else's car. :twothumbs

I'm amused that you followed up that sentence with 2 sentence fragments punctuated as if they were actual sentences.:enguard:

Er....I'm thinking that the problem is not that there was too much engineering.

Er....I'm thinking that the problem is not that there was too much engineering.

I suppose it depends which way you look at it. :enguard:

The point is that these "shops" offer services and make outrageous engineering promises in the attempt to satisfy the egos of the people who commission these mega-dollar "cars". In the end the "shops" and their "specialists" are revealed for being under qualified for the jobs they retained and the services they offered, and the client loses out.

If I was EVER going to enlist someone to build me a car; I'd look for a guy like Ron Schwarz because at least he has thought it through:

Maybe that is another build/project foul?
Not thinking it through...

I'm addicted! I can't stop! I spend all time online or with a classified paper in my hand looking for deals. I'm 25, have owned over 20 cars and never did much of anything with them lol. I currently have 7 (see sig) and don't want to sell any. Every time I buy one I tell my self it's the last, then after a few weeks I'm right back on ebay and craigslist looking for more:Alchy:

But hey, at least it's not crack. I have no other vice, I don't drink, or smoke, or do any drugs, very rarely ever have a date. Cars are all I've got. Most of the people I know blow all their money on drugs, alcohol, or a girl friend. At least I have something to show for the fact that I'm broke lol. I can always sell a car if I need money, you can't sell booze once you've drank it.

I dislike Canadian pro-touring cars. The ones with the French-Canadian engines.
Do you mean chevy engines? They are chev cars with pontiac badges.
Some people are going to have an anal hemorage, and to each his own, but I hate billet and ugly body mods -especially in carbon fiber. Or worse yet - fake carbon fiber. Yikes.

I'm beginning to dislike the classic two-tone paint jobs (top & bottom). I think it's already dated.

Those flared cars are awesome. I'll admit that I am not a big fan of TTII's or any of the look alikes. The Foose, Boyds, Coys, etc. They are a nice looking wheel and there are a lot of nice rides out there with them, but you just see so many of them.

As a TTII owner, I can count on one hand how many sets I've seen on the road....actually, I've never seen another car drive by with them. Though I do agree, I absolutely can't stand the fake versions...they just look goofy compared to the original.

I like tunnel rams and dual quads. :) My last '69 Camaro came with one, and I regretted it every day after I removed it, it was just so FUN, dammit!

Also, there are times I wish my car wasn't as nice as it is...and there are times I wish it was nicer...argh. You build it, and you want it to remain as nice as you made it forever, but you drive it, and you want to enjoy it for what it is. Nothing bothers me more than trailer queens and airbags...oh, and anyone that say's 'murdered out' when referring to an all black ride.

Yep, me too.....I see so many red and black cars (mine included) that I think it was a factory option........but I ain't takin' mine back apart to redo it! I'm having too much fun driving the dogpoop out of it! Oh yea, I got dem dreaded TTII's on it too!
