Hello everyone, my name is Keith and I'm new to the site. Can anyone tell me how to put more punch in my stock 327 camaro??? It has double hump heads, holley 600, factory intake, manifolds, and I believe the gears are 273... Its a cruiser and I don't plan on taking it to the track.

Welcome to the site, Keith.

I reckon the answer to your question really depends on what you're willing to change -- just changing the rear axle ratio would give you more punch, at the cost of some mileage. Reworking the engine internals would also add some, but would likely get expensive, and of course you could just swap in a bigger engine.

I want to keep it highway friendly. Would headers and a different intake make a difference???

Welcome to the site. I totally understand wanting to keep it a cruiser. Mine is a cruiser both figuritively and literally. It also has 2.73 rear gears plus OD. I might do track days with my wagon though. Anyway come on in and join the crowd.

I would change the rear end gears to a 3:08=3:36 and swap the manifold,as well as install headers, with a free flowing exhaust. Not sure on what the budget is but a 5-6 speed tranny with lower gearing will wake that car up! That 327 is a great engine and will be great on gas too given the right gearing. Good luck with your project Keith. Sounds like fun!

What kind of transmission does the car have now? When I went from a Powerglide to a TH350 on my old 65 Chevelle the difference was astounding and made no difference at highway speeds (both were 1:1 top gear).

On a side note - the Garland you're at, is that the town just north of me?

Hi Keith - welcome!

Start simple, get a dual plane aluminum high rise intake and a set of headers with a decent exhaust (~2.25"). For a little more kick change over the distributor to an HEI unit. The Holley 600 is a great carb.

It has a TH350. I'm real close to Lake Ray Hubbard.
