What better way is there to spend the day after Valentines than in your second love on the twisting roads of the Angeles Crest Highway? As always we will meet at the Shell Station at the ACH exit off the 210 freeway, one exit east of the 2 freeway. January was a record turnout with several new members of the "Club" making it out for a fantastic winter day. Rumor has it a newly restored slick blue '69 LS1 Camaro will be making its ACH debut.
The fallback plan is Paradise Cove at 8:00am if the ACH is icy but the weather is good.
So far...

Just tell her that you want to take her out to a romantic breakfast and watch the sunrise. Yeah, I can be really cheesy when necessary.
The 15th it is.

Actually told her about the fun I had and showed her some of the pics that were posted. She is interested in going. Might make this one after all!

Unless you have a keeper whos among other things:
-Let you store your XR650R dirtbike in the living room
-Pushed you to actually buy the 1st gen camaro and stop heming and hawing
-Helped work on the car cleaning old parts (that I really didn't want to do)
-bought you cool car parts for Christmas and gave a list of cool stuff to relaitives to buy you for christmas
- finished installing a new power steering pump when your back is thrown out mid project

I'm a definite maybe. My daily driver blew up last Saturday and my backup daily driver had some low life steal the catalytic converter out of it last night. I had to hitch a ride to work today. Sooooo unless the primary daily driver falls together I'm not going to be able finish the Camaro in time.
Oh and I definitely have a keeper. Not only does she have her own big block Chevelle but she let me keep the sub-frame for the Camaro in the living room. She does daycare for a living and every one of the parents were amazed that I got to put the subframe in the living room. I have pictures at work. :)

Lance you do have a keeper in Jill, just a really great lady. I have had GF's that would be as good to let me keep parts in the living room (as long as they fit the decorm, early junkyard)
Sorry to hear about the problems with the DDs.

Carl inspired me so much that i wont be able to make this run. As far as keepers, my girl has told me I don't have to hide the parts boxes any longer... and she polished the valve covers on the new motor.

Yeah, blame it on me, as long as it keeps the ladies happy. ;-)
Lance, sorry to hear about your luck. What's your DD that blew up?

Today on the radio during the traffic report, they said that ACH was closed due to snow. It seems the last storm dropped the snow level down to 4000 feet.

Snow? What snow? I took the dogs up the Crest for a walk in the wintery weather and shot this on the way back down.

Based on the forecast, I don't if either route will be doable. Either way, have fun if you do go. I will probably make the next run. I FINALLY have 2 job offers on the table and am expecting a 3rd. Where were they 5 months ago? Once I get caught up I'll be backl out. Should be next month.:woot:

Great Nick! Take two of them and work double time for Camaro parts.
I agree with Nick. It's not looking good. I'm good with pulling the plug since I'm in the middle of a big painting project.
Who would have thought that weather like that could be so close to LA LA land.
Anyone up for moving the date out to next Sunday? The projected weather looks much better.

I think a one week (literal) rain check is a good idea. It's supposed to rain Sunday, so the Malibu run's not going to be much better.
The Crest was great today. The dogs (off leash) and I walked about 4 miles with snow falling, climbing two miles up until the snow was 6" deep. At that point it was just too hard to keep going, so we came back. The dogs had a great time, although Sammy went a little White Fang and felt to need to establish his dominance over his sister almost the entire way up.

Nick, Good to hear you got a couple of interviews. Rain check might be a good idea if the Malibu run is going to to be wet and wild too.

Next Sunday is the new and, hopefully, improved date.

The 22nd may be an issue as well. This was taken Sunday on Barley Flats Road, about a mile from the ACH-Upper Big Tujunga intersection before the current storms rolled through:

Dang weather service. Sunday was nice in the morning. 24hrs before it was a 60-70% chance of rain. By Saturday night, 7%.
What do you think Mike, ACH out for Sunday?

Whew, I took the big picture out - that thing was driving me crazy.
The one thing that scares me about the Crest is the chance of ice in the turns. It's not only rain, there's also run-off as snow melts. I'll go up on Saturday and scout it out.

Well, I went up the Crest this morning and I don't think it would be a fun ride on Sunday. As you get higher there's a lot of runoff from snow melting on the side of the road and that runoff may or may not be frozen at 6:30 to 7:15 Sunday morning. The uncertainty whether there's going to be ice around the next corner tends to ruin my fun.
I'd suggest the Malibu route, but I'm not sure I'll make it.

Guys I have to pass on this one. I can't get the car out of the garage! The #^@#&^$ garage door spring broke and locked me out! With the help of a neighbor and the opener I got it up enough to get inside and unlock the house. So now I have to get it fixed. So no early morning exit tomorrow.

There was only Lance and I today. No rain, but a few drops landed as we were about to leave.
I'm so bummed! Lance's Camaro is a great shade of blue, and if the sun was out more it would have been perfect picture weather. Too bad there was no auxiliary lighting. Maybe Lance has a better one.
Beautiful car Lance. Well done!
