So i just got my hands officially on a 1967 GTO HO. I cut a deal with my Dad for it so its mine!! IT was originally a california car and its super rust free. The bodywork is done so all thats left is the fun stuff. Anyhow ive noticed that most GTO's are restored to a factory kind of spec. I couldnt care less about that and i was wondering if anyone had any good pics or info about pro touring 67' GTO's? I want to go with a mild pro touring style with mine. Stock exterior and interior. With some 17's, good 4 wheel disc brakes, a 9" ford rear, a 5 speed and a 450hp motor or so. Anyone have any good 67' GTO info BESIDES stock stuff? If you want to see a few shots of it glance through the photo book link in my signature. Ill try to get more later. Thanks!

How close to original stock is it? If the numbers match and it's close to stock, it might make more sense to get it back to stock, sell it, and use the $ to build up something that's worth MORE once it's been pro-toured.

I'm a big fan of leaving body and interior stock and changing tires/wheels ,suspension, and drivetrain. Same thing I am doing to a 66 Cutlass. I love pretty much any 64-67 Abody. Good luck with the build 67 GTO has great lines.

If i had the time and money to build it back to stock that would be one thing. It would be a desireable car to restore. Its a factory 360hp HO, AT, AC, PS, PB, rear antenna car that is absolutly 100% rust free. I still have the factory smog crap and the black plates to prove it was indeed from california originally. The problem is that the numbers matching 400 spun a bearing about 7 years ago and I dont have the protect-o-plate anyhow so i dont believe there is any proof of originality. While this car is really nice its a long way from a #1 resto that would bring the big bucks so im just going to build it. I also dont believe i could find a better candidate for what i want to do. I hate to make the car sound bad because its not at all, but at some point in its life it was in a nasty wreck. The rear 1/4 has been replaced and the frame has been welded in front of the driver side firewall. In all honesty i want to build this car because its a father/son car that never got finished due to lack of funds. Im not going to cut this thing up at all but i want somthing thats pretty cool none the less, i dont get into the original thing that much. So anyone have any sweet 67' links?

Funny you post that car. Thats about the exact color of my GTO except mine has a vynal top instead of a droptop.

To Novaguy73: are you willing to sell any of your 67 GTO HO Smog Parts? In particular, the air cleaner and attached hoses? Thanks!

Taste can change over the years and pro-touring could go out of style. Stranger things have happened. So what ever you do keep everything that you take off of it and don't modify anything you cant go back to. That smog equipment might be worth some big bucks for someone that is doing a restore. Hold onto that original 400 to numbers matching dates holds alot of value to a car. You don't need the protecto plate. Send the VIN to PHS (pontiac historical services) and get the build sheet on the car.

I hate to say it but pro-touring a great classic can devalue them to most people. I think for the baby boomers its about reliving there youth and for the yonger generation its all about fun.

For me I fall in the middle of wanting the car to look stock and do minor updates that can't be seen. Like in the steering, suspension, engine and stereo.

Novaguy73,

I wanted to do pretty much what you're looking for with a couple exceptions, but didn't want to cut up a solid legit GTO. I bought a '66 LeMans convertible in rough shape to start with and am turning it into a GTO Restomod project.

Mine is:
All pro-touring suspension from Mark at SC&C.
I wanted to stick with a 12bolt rear end, so I've installed a new Moser 12 bolt, 33 spline, 3.73 Trutrack.
For various reasons I wanted large drum rear brakes so I went with new Ford 11" drums.
Disc brakes up front - may end up with Hydroboost.
New quick ratio PS.
TREMEC TKO600 Tranny.
Pontiac 400 block, .035 over, forged 4.25" crank, roller cam/lifters, Ross pistons, KRE ported aluminum heads, 1.65 rockers, Tomahawk forged 4340 lightweight i-beam rods, 4 bolt main, will likely dyno in the high 500's hp and over 600 tq.

I'm keeping a completely stock exterior except lowered about an inch and PPG Tri-Coat paint in non-factory color.

Interior is staying completely stock except using non-factory color (from Legendary) and I'm building a different dash w/Autometer gauges.

Do NOT - I repeat do NOT - mess with your motor. Pull it and put it aside if you want more power. It's worth way more as is than if you muck with it. To get 450+ hp you'll have to replace everything except for the block and maybe crank anyway so just keep it.

Hey guys I guess I should mention this. I know the car is worth a good chunk of change. Its a real HO GTO with the numbers mathing drivetrain. I have no plans on cutting anything up on this car. It would be a mild pro touring at most. No cutting. The only cutting going on would be to get a 5 speed in there and im using a richmond 5 so it should clear fine I believe. Stock interior to the T. No wheel well mods. Ill probably go with 4 wheel power discs, a mild motor some nice 17's with what ever i can put in the wheel wells without cutting, and some nice suspension upgrades. Nothing out of control. Just a super nice cruiser. For now im looking at putting a TKO600 in my Nova and setting the richmond 5 and long shifter aside for my GTO.....ill try to get a couple pics of my GTO up, maybe this weekend.

I think thats a good plan. Just keep eveything you take off it incase you want to sell it later or go back to original. Should be a great car when you are done. Steve

I wanted to tahnk you for your advice and help. I finally selected my wheels and tires. I went with 18x8 front and 18x9 rear with 245/40 front and 275/40 rear with no clearance issues. I still need to install my lowering springs

Thx
Mike
