I am building my 355ci using the Edlebrock Performer RPM heads, cam & Air Gap manifold - it's going into a 4spd chevelle - they recommend their 750cfm carb - Just wondering if anyone has any better recomendations - the car will be a weekend cruiser not a drag car - thanks

650 ? Why would Edelbrock recommend a 750? - Any brand won't do I want the BEST / most trouble free carb for this set-up

for trouble-free get an edelbrock 650 vac secondary - thunder series. (I don't like dp's for street)
for tunability get a holley 650 and fiddle with it.
if you are one of those whose confort level is proportional to the
amount of money you spend order a custom carb.
headed to the track - get a 750 dp.
carbs are easier than cams, you don't like it - swap it out.

what about a properly built q-jet? they have just as much power as a holley and are known for better MPG and driveability. and you can adjust the secondaries for total CFM, up to 750 or 850, depending on who you talk to.

Q-jet would be the best, the '75 and later 800 cfm versions are tops.
The E-carbs are an okay runner at best, they run fine I suppose but are not very tuneable.
Any double-pumper Holley will be a gas-sucker and won't out-run a Q-jet.
The Q-jet (it comes in 750 and 800 sizes) has air-valve secondaries and won't feed your engine any more airflow than it asks for. The carb senses the airflow demands of the engine it's on and provides it by design. The Q-jets were used on 230-cube Pontiac overhead-cam sixes all the way up to the big Caddy 500 V8s.
I'm using a '77 350 Pontiac carb on my street 455, it's an 800 cfm carb. These carbs are so flexible that the carb the factory used on a 170 HP 350 smogger runs hard on my 400+ HP 455 with just some recalibration.
They will run right with any Holley and get better gas mileage every time. Most folks pass up the Q-jet because they're not racey-looking like a Holley or Holley-clone, or because they think they're troublesome or too complicated.
The Q-jet is king on the street, just my most humble opinion.
You couldn't give me an E-carb.
