Hi

Have been looking at the kickerpanels from RodDoors for my 69 Camaro.
Have anybody tried them out? What to do with vents and controls?

I have them. You delete the vents, they will be covered. It changes getting in and out too, kinda tight by your feet with the speaker sticking out.If you have a tilt column and low bolsters on your seat its probably ok.

ZCRC. Did you put a support ring on the back side of the panel for the speaker? Or, did you just screw the speaker to the abs? Were there any issues with fitment?

I have a set of these panels and the trunk kit and am just wondering how it's going to fit up.

thanks, Mike

I wasnt really happy with the initial fit of my set.. Plus the passenger keeps knocking the cover off my speaker on the right side...It seems I can get used to getting in and out, but I always forgot warn the passenger...

Here are mine test fit. Still need to cover them. My speaker grills screon so no problem there. They stick out a little more than I thought, but not something I can't get used to.

Iorn Mike, how is getting to the dimmer switch?

UH, it's not impossible, but you have to work at it. I was just thinking today that it would be nice to move it inboard. Or, maybe forward. I got the stereo working a few days ago and it sounds amazing. I cant imagine getting good sound without doing something at least similar to this. I can take a better pic if you need one.

they look a little like the ones I bought for my C-1500. Think some fabric, leather or carpet would make a good finish.
Do you remove the old kick panels prior to installation?

Yes, they replace the originals

Canīt wait. Have had my Camaro for 4 years with lousy stereo and speakers. I have a pretty nice setup in my C-1500 with boston speakers so I know how it can sound. The engine noise is nice but music just makes the whole picture so much better.

Yep, I like it at hwy speed. Gets old listening to 3600 rpm sometimes. Crank it up and enjoy the ride.

haha then you should try riding with me, its more like 6.000 rpm on the highway.

Damn! That's a little harsh. These may not be SEMA show material, but they're the best I couldfind off the shelf.

Try these out, I just ordered them and they look like a better fit than the ones from roddoors. They are from firewheelclassics.com

Does any one have a picture of the kick panels installed from firewheelclassics.com? I'm curious to see what they look like in a car.

Mike what did you pay for those?

I have to agree they are not the prettiest things, but the local shop wanted $1200 bucks to build me a pair of inclosures similar to those...and that did not include speakers!

I thought I pad more. But, their site says $89/pr

I have the roddoors, covered in black ultrasuede, though they are not perfect they look alotbetter than the other ones, and if your ears were in your ankles the others might be ok. with alittle extra work they are very effective, i have had nothing but positive feedback. just get rid of the abs plastic look.

I covered mine in nuleather and they also get great reviews. I agree, the sound quality (from a design aspect) has to be better with these. With your legs down there the sound would be mute if they weren't angled. I also agree that they need to be apholstered. The abs look isn't pleasing.

Yeah after I posted that I felt bad. It's nothing against you, I just don't like how they stick out like 4" from the kick panels.

Banger26,
Did you ever get your kickpanels on? How did they turn out?

I put the speakers in them and now the car is at the upholstery shop, just waiting to get it back and then will post the pics. They should look great, I like the fact that they don't stick out that much. Less chance of kicking them

They don't look that terrible, they look similar to Q-form kickpanels that are being sold for newer vehicles. I had the same issue with getting in and out of my truck with my S-10 Q-form kicks.

What I don't understand is that there is quite a bit of room behind the metal a little farther up....it doesn't make sense for rod doors to make these mount so low. The could have came up a little farther and under the dash a bit and they would look better and take up way less foot room.

Well it all boils down to preference. I like them just the way they are. I think if you like the more vintage look, then you would probably like the other ones that are flush with speakers in the vent area.
