My son and I were watching last night and I was laughing as the price went up on the Vette and I can just imagine the comments that Bob was making. Anyway.....My son started caught on and started playing "Where's Bob?" as the camera followed him around for about 15 mintues after the sale of the Monte Carlo. He was in the back ground alot. I'm glad I didn't have a beer in my hand.

Congrats on the unique vehicle Bob!

That active suspension corvette was an incredible piece of technology. A quick google found that GM spent 27million developing that car, and it was projected to add 30k of parts to the cost of a corvette. Obviously not feasible in production.

Wonder what Bob is going to do with it?

Pace yourself Bob. There are four more nights of bidding. Actually I think they were both good buys. Glad you got them. You are still my hero.

There were a TON of deals last night. I know the big dollar vehicles run later in the auction (Sat, Sun) but there are definitely going to be some steals this year.

I saw Bob pick up those 2 cars too. I particularly liked the active suspension ZR-1 Vette. I had read about it in a magazine recently. Great car to pick up.

I grudgingly admit to liking that Monte Carlo SS, but they did make it extra swoopy looking so it was pretty cool looking.
I couldn't help but to wonder if that was a darn V6 under the hood though. Something looked funny there.

PS. another GM collection grab by someone else was a black 94 Impala SS - with a 6 speed in it!

I talked to Bob today and congratulated him on now owning the most expensive Monte Carlo in the world....lol.
He said it was similar to the Cuda in that every panel had been massaged, and that nothing on it was factory even though GM built it. A real piece of history.
Yes, the Corvette was THE car that GM used as a test mule to do what we now know as magnetic active suspension on the new vettes.

He also bought a Oldmobile van, Why I don't know, and a SAAB that was built to run Pikes Peak and won its class for $7700. Look for him to buy more as the week progresses, he was having a ball when I talked to him.

I'd like to see that Pikes Peek SAAB. And your right about that being the most expensive Monte ever. LOL!

I saw the Monte Carlo years ago when GM put on a big shindig down at Earhardt's dealership about the time that body style was being introduced as the Cup car. I'm thinking thats when Dale signed it.
Really neat one off piece.

the ZR1 was written up in Hemmings Muscle Machines a few months ago.
