I have a B&M deep aluminum pan on my 4L80E in my '67 Firebird and it sits much lower than I anticipated. My previous TH-400 deep pan added 2qts and had 4" of ground clearance but my new 4L80E pan adds 3 qts but only has 2" of ground clearance and sits much lower than my header collectors. I plan to raise my car up about 1" but 3" ground clearance is still a bit low. Maybe I could build a skid plate...:pat:
Which pans are you 4L80E owners using? Thanks.

Do you think the deep pan is nessecary? With a big cooler and a stock pan it should be ok. Those things were initially built to work their asses of in 3/4 ton and one ton apps. I'd be hard pressed to see your Firebird overwork it.

Put the stock pan on. It will be fine with a cooler. 2" ground clearance is totally unacceptable. Did you fill the trans with fluid yet? If not, run Redline Oil D4. It's stable to 400 degrees F. You're Compushift shows trans temps. In Florida summer traffic, you will only see temps of 200 degrees F--215 max. So there's plenty of safety margin--even with stock Dexron 4 fluid.

I got a medium sized Moroso pan from Rossler to make room for his trans brake. Clearance is pretty good on my slightly lowered 2002 Z/28. The pan was pretty expensive though, around $250 I think.

I had the same clearance issue with a deep pan on a 67 Camaro that I bought as a package deal from a forum member.
I just received a stock pan. The part number was AC Delco part # 24204278, which was a bit of a pain to find. It has a drain plug, and did not come with a gasket.
The drain plug is not positioned low enough to drain all the fluid, but it will drain most of it. I imagine it is a good idea to take the pan off to thoroughly clean it anyway.
The pan does appear to touch the bottom of the filter assembly. I'm in the process of determining if the trans. shop used a longer filter pickup tube to compensate for the deep pan. I might have to use a shorter pickup tube. For all I know, perhaps the pan is supposed to touch the bottom of the filter.
I bought it off Amazon.com for $54.84.
