Going Black - looking for recommendations

So, my car is going to be painted black. What I'm trying to figure out is the best method and the best products to use.

The car will be kept outdoors as I don't have a garage, and thus all it will have to protect it is a car cover. Also, having it as durable a finish as possible is the most important to me to cut down on the amount of maintenance.

Right now it is currently sitting in Nason 2-part primer.

Given that, what would you recommend? Single stage vs. base / clear coat? What brand paint?

I dont know **** about paint but I would be worried about Black looking like crap after the cover going on and off all the time out doors..

When I had my black GTA it sat outside all the time. I never bothered to cover it up, mainly because I didn't want the damage from the cover moving around in the wind and the off and on procedure everytime I wanted to go somewhere. The only time it got covered was when it went inside for winter storage. You get used to is being covered in a bit of dust after awhile. And it's also why i won't paint one of mine black again...

Unfortunately I have trees in my driveway, and trees mean seeds and sap! I figured a lighter car cover would be better than trying to clean sap off the car all the time.

Sort of. The driveway comes into the back of my house from a laneway and pulls up to my back deck. It's wide enough to open both doors and not hit the fence on either side. I live in a downtown semi-detached house so space is premium.

I park my cars in a row, so I have to pull the back one out to get the front one. Thus the shelter would need pass-through ability.

sounds like you need a canopy cover...

I would use a Good Hi quality Base coat clear coat system easy to fix when it gets damaged and its tuff, Put on about 4 coats of Clear then you will have enough for cut and buff and buffing later if you don't go too deep with your initial cut to remove orange peel effect of clear.
PPG is a good one very spendy though I am using Transtar and DuPont's stuff myself, Ther are many more.

When I got my bronco painted the guy used a 2 stage...Mercedes black is an awsome color with silver metallic in it, truck really stands out...too bad it got hit a month after, fukin old people who don't see red lights :drive1::bicycle:

Every spare penny needs to go to the car right now. A car port would be many thousands of dollars! And require a building permit!

I would go with the light weight car cover for outdoor storage from Californbia car covers that what i use and no dust or scratches get on car and water beads off cover. they give a four year warranty on cover too.

I would go with a storage unit until you get some shelter. Doesn't it snow like 15 feet a day up there.:1st:

I'm mostly concerned with tree droppings. The car goes into underground storage over the winter.

Another question - going with an OEM colour seems to be the cheapest route. Which OEM black do you think looks the darkest / best?
