Copy of thread I posted in the open forum.

I ordered a pair of wheels from my local tire store (Les Schwab for those in the Pacific Northwest) about 6 months ago and haven't seen anything yet. I haven't heard before that it took them this long. Especially since the economy is so ruff.
The guy at Les Schwab has contacted them many times and gets the answer of the "company sold or merged and the wheel quality is questionable and it will be a while before the wheels are built. Any one have a little insider trader info on this. Is this the truth or a smoke screen. I beleive my guy, just wonder what the other end of his phone calls are coming from.
When I heard about Boyds death I hoped something possible like this would not happen so I went down and ordered my front set of wheels. I ordered the rears from the same dealer and it took about a month and a half to get them. Now I'm affraid I will not be able to get a pair to match them, and unfortunately since the economy is going south and the auto market is sagging, the zinc mine that I work at has announced as a nice Christmas present that we will be shutting down in about a month and a half now. :crying: So my time is running out for the funds.
I would of ordered from some place else but I have an account at Les Schwabs and I am able to pay for them over time.
If anyone has info it would be appreciated to find out the true story or if it just is now taking this long.
Or if someone happens to have a set of Boyd Coddington JYDog Old School 18 x 8", 4.75 B.S., 5 on 4 & 3/4 pattern. :enguard: I'd fight ya for um.

Well this is an interesting situation...

I *just* ordered a set of Boyd JYD's Old School Finish yesterday from Tomz Wheels. 18x9.5 with 5.25 BS for the rears. I already have a set of 17x8 4.5 BS for the front but have been deciding on the rears for over 6 months.

Not sure if this will help but I initially ordered my set last week. I had to make a change to the specs yesterday not being hopeful I still had time to make the change in time. I mean.. with the bad economy they probably have surplus manufacturing capacity... you'd think...

We were able to intercept the order and make the change no problem. makes me wonder... Will my order be as delayed as yours also???

Worse case scenario. I have a set of fronts. You have a set of rears in the Chevy bolt pattern. If this deal goes defunct then we have one set between us

I've been selling Boyd wheels now for 3 years. And since the merger of Wheel Pros with American Racing and Boyd wheels, the whole process has gone to hell. I had one customer wait for his wheels for 8 months. And I'm talking about a simple set of 18's. After American Racing, Weld, and Boyds all merged, Weld's plant in Kansas City has been selected as the one place all the custom wheels for all three companies would be made. So that threw a huge wrench in the already hurting program. Now, it seems like they are always waiting on a boat load of centers from overseas before they can get anything going, and its even worse.

I just received my first set of Boyds that we've ordered and sold in quite sometime after waiting 10 weeks, so maybe its getting better. But when we're machining our Rushforth Wheels and turning them out in half the time, you have to wonder if its worth the wait just to save a few bucks on a cast wheel.

I keep advertising to you guys... call me before you order a set of wheels! We'll tell you what's really going on with your orders, and make suggestions for the better wheel buying experience to help avoid cases like these. The whole reason I started DriverzInc is help customers avoid these types of situations if we could.

Jon - in my case... I came across the front pair (brand new set) for my JYDs practically free. It was economically better for me to just order the rear set. Love your wheels though. If I had the $$ i'd be on them in no time.

I had the same experience when I got on the phone with a great guy at Discount tires direct. I had my mind set on some boyd's wheels. He tried to discourage me from buying them due to very long build times. He still placed a call for me, to see if my custom back space was available. He couldnt even get a good answer. He said after american racing bought the wheel division of boyd's its been near impossible to get wheels shipped out. I took his advice and went with billet specialties. JR

I will agree with Jon, We are also a Boyd dealer and American Racing. The last 2 years have been a nightmare getting anything from them. We have stopped taking orders for the Boyd line all together. We just dont get that warm fuzzy feeling when we have them on the phone. seems no one is on the same page.

You are screwed!!

I ordered a set of Boyd Coddington Rebels and it took almost a year for them to show and when they did they looked like *****.. It took another 3 months for them to get them back to me with center caps and I still am not happy with them.. When I called them to let them know about teh wheels they told me they have a 3 step setup for quality and that it is impossible that they look that bad and then he had the nerve to tell me that I could send that back to them and PAY $200 a wheel for them to fix them. I told them that this will be the last set of Boyds I will ever buy, PERIOD!!!Good Luck with it, I had NONE!!!

Sad thing, I bought a set of Boyd Coddington Timeless 6's for my Sierra almost 10years ago and they looked great and still have them..

They just auctioned off all the equipment from the Weld pant that they were using to put some of those wheels together. Custom backspace items were going through Boyds shop but after his death the whole place closed and machines were sold off to others. Boyds wife was going to have the new owners of the machines assemble the wheels but that was all put to a stop by someone else! Currently I heard they are searching for someone to assemble for them but have not hooked a sucker yet.

Munster,
If you can find a set that matches in the correct diameter I can rehoop them any width and backspace you need.

Holy crap, I loose my job and get kicked in the nuts all in the same month. Maybe Boyd could send down the wheel fairy.

I just had another customer call and want to order Boyd Rallye's. I called and they told me discontinued. They have a new wheel on their WheelPros.com site for Boyd called the Rambler. I called to find out an eta on those, and they are not taking orders on those until maybe April they said. Then why put it on your site? I had some words for them.... I would take Shaun up on his offer if you can find some matching diameter and bolt pattern wheels, he can re-rim them for you and help you complete your wheel set. Good work Shaun!

Thanks Shaun. We're lucky to have this option but also unlucky enough to have selected not so popular wheels. I can't find them on the classified like TTIIs on any given day but definitely a good option to have.

Thought i'd report back in...

It's been 7 weeks now since I ordered my wheels. I was promised 6-8wks. I suppose as long as it's within 10 wks I guess i'll be happy.

My dealer (Tom's) heard back from the factory that they no longer produce the 9.5" width hoops and they only produce the 10" hoops now. I'm fine with that since i'd rather have the 10" width anyway. So now it appears my wheels are back on the queue again and they're still holding to an 8 week delivery time.

At this point, with all the bad stories, it's just nice to hear a peep out of those guys.

Will report back when I actually receive delivery.

I wouldnt get my hopes up, when I called them, they told me that they had already shipped and that I should have them within the week.. 2 Months Later I had them in my shop.. I will never buy another pair of Boyds as long as I live. Which suck, because they are the only wheels I have ever bought.. :(

6 months of waiting and about $100 dollars each extra, even tho they are 8" instead of 10", they have arrived. Learned my lesson. Had me really worried. Maybe there is hope for others having problems. Going to use our site sponsers more now , as much as possible. They did also screw up and sandblast my center caps. Trying to get a new set.
