I would like to paint the scoop on my car flat black, but having owned a flat black car before, I know how even the slightest scuff will damage the finish on it.

Can anyone recommend a flat black product that won't scuff or leave finger prints when touched?

Believe it or not. And I know when someone says rattle can, they laugh. But, the best Satin Black (flat Black) paint product I have found is Rustoleum's Satin Black. Wax doesnt affect it when you accidently cross over. no scuffs, no finger prints, ect. It is very durable and doesnt fade. I have a couple of cars that, I painted all the trim and the bottom of the rocker panels almost ten years ago..

Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.. Unlike alot of other flat blacks, it sprays and dries even...

I use OEM brand paints semi gloss black, its available at the paddock and it works great.

I will try the rustoleum though, hell of a lot cheaper.

Which rustoleum satin black are you guys using? Thinking about just going cheap and spraying my firewall w/ it. Got a # off the can, I know there are a few versions from rustoleum?

My Dp90 still looks awesome after a year or so. I clean it with a rag and glass cleaner. It takes the oxidation right off, finger prints too.

On our camaro we used clear with a dulling agent in it over the black paint. You can vary how dull it looks by how much agent you add. I don't remember a name or part #. We got it at our local paint shop.

There are a couple things to consider. The epoxy primers are not designed to be a top coat. The primers will act a sponge when they get wet. Adding flatener to a clear only makes a dull finish. I would suggest that you use a flat clear. Dupont and PPG both make, and it is the best choice you can make for getting a flat clear that is durable.

Not sure what the part number is.. But, it is a green spray can, and says Satin Black on the Can..There is Flat Black, semi Gloss...But the can you want is Satin Black...

It will make a believer out of you...ha ha.. Any Wal-Mart or Hardware should have it.. I am not sure what they put in there paint. But it is the only paint I have found that works that good, and last as long as it does...

It works great on fire walls, Fender wells, trim, rocker panels, wheels. ect.. I have used it on everything including Full stripes..No wax issues, no rubbing issues, ect that is typical for the dull blacks

I think it is 7777 satin black.I spray the bottom af a lot of cars with it.Holds up great. We usually buy it in quarts and reduce it with acetone.Sprays good through a conventional type gun.

Something else to consider is what I used last year on my 2006 Daytona, I added a new hood and I wanted to keep the theme of the car with a large vinyl hood decal. Because the new hood had a significant bulge I new getting someone to make a decal was going to cost $$$ so I asked around and some guys recommended SEM spray can paint called Bumper Coater found at most parts stores. It was great and I get people asking me all the time where I got the Decal.

Use the Concept (PPG) single stage urethane black. If you want a good paint. If not use the rattle can.

Really??? I purposely painted my car in epoxy (after bringing it all down to metal) with the idea the epoxy would NOT act like the cheaper primers. Did I go wrong here?? I understand they dont have some of the additives like UV protection and what not but I thought for simple water they were impervious?? Sponge?? Now you have me thinking. Sponge?? Really.. Its SPI epoxy. Seems to be solid. Hmmmm. Now I wonder.. JR

You went wrong......epoxys have NO and I mean NO UV protection...it will white out in no time and blsuch to beat the band..

How do I know...I am a painting contractor and have been using epoxys for years on floors/exterior tanks

We use it on oil tanks because it holds up but goes chalky and will stay clean looking for years...good metal protector but awful for a car finish

Wrong?? How? I already said they dont have any UV additives. I already know that. Did you read my post. I get they dont have any UV protection. Thats not even what I was talking about. I was talking about the permeability to water. The "sponge" reference is what I was talking about. Simple.. JR

Epoxy is impervious to water for the most part... They say the Dupont DP90 is not a good finish...I have had it on my frame for years with no sign of rust....

Hey Johnny, and yer right about the UV issue. I understand the OP was looking for a streetable finish, I just got a lil side tracked with the water issue :) Good info!! JR
