Is this a rare engine or what? I haven't seen one myself personally. ;)

1967

The first Camaro roared to life on September 26, 1966 as a '67 model. Unlike its main competitor, Camaro consisted of a front subframe attached to a unibody for better road and noise isolation as well as better ride quality. Right from the beginning – with its dramatic style, 250 cid small block V8, and choice of options such as the Style Trip Group, Rally Sport Package and Super Sport – Camaro was the "closest thing to a Vette yet." There was even a special edition Z28 with a specific small block V8 engine that was developed as a contender for an established racing series. 220,906 Camaros, including approximately 100 Ermine White Convertible pace car replicas, were produced.

No, it actually was fairly rare. Most people who opted for the six went with the 230 six. My car originally had the 250cid and if I could have found another one to replace the one that was yanked out of my car, I would have done a restoration rather than modification. As you pointed out, how many of these have you seen compared to the number of 383 or 502 Camaros?

I didn't realize that the small block came that litte...
I thought the bottom of the barrel was the 262 in the late 70's Monza

Obviously they need to hire a computer guy that cares about who he works for.

block casting numbers from mortec.com small block casting number page (http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm)

355909.....262.....75....2

360851.....262...75-76...2...Monza V-8

i think i recall reading somewhere that it's possible to make a 230-something inch small block using all stock parts if you really wanted to for whatever reason...
