Sorry, ROID RAGE TIME! That is so ****ED UP!:bsjerk::bsjerk: They think if people quit fixing up classics it will help turn the economy towards newer cars.:bsjerk: IMO. of coarse. I bought a 300 limited in 2006 the sticker 36,000. I have 63,000 miles on it and would be lucky to get 8,000 for it if I sold it:bsjerk:. Had I put 36,000 in a classic 62 ImpalA(my dream car) It would always be worth a least the 36,000 and probably worth a hell of a lot more if done RighT! :1st: Plus there would be No electrical gremlins, plastic body panels poping off, rattles......... Lame friggin attempt on the governments side:bsjerk:! Old cars were built so much better than the new cars:1st:. So, if new cars aren't selling, scrap all the old ones, then they will sell a few more new ones right:bsjerk:? But what would that do to the restoration economy of classics, the aftermarket parts companys, the good body shops...... I bet it would blow the 3,000,000 jobs out of the water if the big 3 collapse:idea:. Damn are we living in France:bsjerk:, Please tell me we ain't. I will wright my Congress man today. This is BulL SnoT! SorrY, that is my .02 cents worth. It may be all in my head; but I assure you it pisses me OFF!:enguard:Game on GovernmenT, GamE oN! I would rather see the bailout?
Post us up that speakers e-mail address! I will keep it polite:).

I gave her an ear/e-mail full, though tastefully done :yum:. Mentioning not only business aspects but how it affects families. My father and I wouldn't be restoring his 66 Nova right now and my son preparing to restore his 67 Camaro convertible in the future if this was in effect years ago. It's hard enough dealing with the local governments and their "restrictions/zoning" laws. We need more "car" people in Washington:enguard:.

Yes I received the Summit email also.
I will add everyone on this site, if not already, should become a member of the SEMA action network. It's free and keeps you informed of laws such as this, you also get info on what your state reps and senators are trying to pull.

Don't just write Pelosi. She isn't going to listen to the people she is trying to step on. Write YOUR congressman.

Agree 100%
I posted this over at Chevelles.com a few minutes ago, now here for your consideration:
I found the text of the bill online here:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/...mp/~c1100epgtW
You should read it...
because asking them to reconsider scrapping the bill based on Hobbyist concerns ALONE may not have as big effect as necessary to kill it...
It is bad overall, but has a significant chance of being approved because it's a "share the wealth/welfare" program. The bill is totally out of touch with "real needs" and the goal to sell new vehicles.
The bill's main theme is to sell fuel efficient, American Made vehicles, introduced as "This Act may be cited as the `Sell Fuel Efficient Cars Act of 2008'."
It has been skewed to restrict the $10,000 payout (...the Secretary shall provide to the seller of such new automobile $10,000.) to people who make $25K a year or less.
Some points to ponder:
It DOES NOT REQUIRE YOU TO BE A US CITIZEN TO RECEIVE PAYMENT.
The bill is designed to stimulate new vehicle sales. The requirement to trade something in has NOTHING to do with the sale of new vehicles.
The requirement to scrap the trade has NOTHING to do with the sale of a new vehicle.
The requirement of income, vehicle ownership, etc. DOES NOT target the neediest individuals, only the poorest.
The requirement to provide this financial support DOES NOT provide any insurance that the purchaser must KEEP the new vehicle or that they have the financial ability to PAY for the new vehicle.
The bill DOES NOT exclude antique or special interest vehicles.
Add the bill's author/sponsor to your contacts/emails as well as your own state Senators/Congressmen/etc.
Sen. Thomas Harkin http://harkin.senate.gov/c/
co-sponsor
Sen. Richard Durbin http://durbin.senate.gov/contact.cfm
And the Committee Members of The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs:
http://banking.senate.gov/public/
There is a "Contact" link that pens up a form on the left hand side of the page.
Link to list of all Senators/Congressmen:
http://www.conservativeusa.org/mega-cong.htm
Hobbyists may be considered "MORE RICH GUYS, REPUBLICANS NO DOUBT, "F" em"
Concerned citizens pointing out the numerous shortcomings of the bill might get more attention.
