Found this in one of my old Car Craft magazines. Kinda risky and outspoken considering where the hobby was going at the time.
I wonder if they knew then how big the import scene was going to be if they still would have printed that article.

I'm sure. The domestic vs. import argument is going to go forever (or until GM/Ford/Toyota merge), and they did pretty much nail every obnoxious import trait.
Besides, if they offended anybody, Source Interlink Media (Car Craft's parent company) offers plenty of other options - http://www.simautomotive.com/ .

I remember that article, it was great lol.
I can respect nicely done imports. I love a nice 240sx, Supra, WRX, Skyline, etc. But I can't stand all the posers with their loud, clapped out NA FWD cars that they think are soooo fast.
I heard a kid once say about his Civic: "I'm sorry I have twice as man cams, half as many cylinders and the same number of valves as you, LOL" He litterally laughed out loud! As if HP is dictated by number of cams and valves:bsjerk:
Then there was the guy with the 93 civic hatch, gutted interior, fully built NA 16B engine, ti valves and retainers and all that mess. Ran 15s in the quarter. My 67 firebird with it's $300 400 ran that fast according to my G-Tech, I had less into that whole car than he did his long block. IMO anything with a gutted interior needs to run 9s or better.
This is coming from a guy that currently ownes a '90 talon, and at one point I had 2 '90 talons. But they were both AWD turbo cars, and that's cool no matter who made it or how many cylinders it has.

Aww heck man! I thought it was an OLD article!! That is just 6 years old!! LOL!
My buddy has a shirt that "fits it", it says
"Racing an import is like particiapting in the Special Olympics......even if you win, you're still retarded"!
Not picking on the mentally challenged, just a funny analogy of the import drivers being "challenged"!

Ha, I was in high school when that one was on the stand... and I think I either bought it or had a subscription because I definitely remember the drawing.
I think, to each his own. I know when I pick up an Import magazine out of curiosity all I see are advertisements, hot Asian girls, reviews on subs, and a few showcased bad ass Supras, 240sx, 350z, ect... Not much of any tech.
But, as far as the import guys typically not knowing what they're talking about... yeah, many of them don’t. The ones that do though really seem to know their stuff. But then again there are a lot (maybe not as many, but still) of people who think they know muscle cars because they lived back in the day, people who say things like "big block 350","when are you going to put a big block in it? (when it already makes more then any stock big block)", "never get one of those to handle like any modern car". Pretty much all the things you read on the “What are the dumbest/most annoying things people ask or say about your car?” thread.
I have went to small import meets with a friend a couple times and most of the scene is about tinting taillights, HID headlights, what wheels to get from Discount Tire (no custom backspacing…), shaving emblems, BODY KITS, and the following performance mods (expected value 0 to 5 HP each): fart can mufflers, headers, cold air intakes w/ K&N filters, intake plenum spacers, and ECM tuning through the mail. Though many of the guys (including my friend) don’t try to front as much about knowing more then they do, so I can respect that a bit more. Much of it is about being “Unique”… ick, whatever that means. I guess those of us with older cars don’t have to worry about that as much as there aren’t that many muscle cars on the road anymore (in comparison to new cars) anyways.
But there are a lot of early model guys that are into the same things (pointing at some 1st gen Camaro owners in So-Cal :hah: :camaro: ), so like I said, to each his own. In Dallas I can count how many Chevelles I’ve seen this year on one hand (much less Cuda's, GTO's, ect) , so I’m not too worried about needing to get some wild paint to get thumbs up from people. How many lame body-kitted Civics do I see? Don't ask.

There was a guy in town who had "My lug nuts have more torque than your import" in vinyl letters on his truck.
