View Full Version : Biggest tire on an 18X9?

Ok I have a set of 18X9's coming. My question is what is the biggest tire that will fit on a 9 inch wide wheel? The TireRack says a 275 and other sources say a 295. now I have more than enough room in the back(15 inches in the wheel well) so that's no concern. I will be running slightly smaller tires on the front if I can run 295's. If not I may run 275's all around. But right now the car looks like it sits a bit nose high. According to measurements at the rocker panel it's level but it does look nose high. So I would love a bigger tire at the back. And it might handle better with a bigger tire since it is a big car with more weight at the rear.

I would run a max of a 275 on the 9" wheel. Anything wider makes the tire"puff" out around the wheel.

The recommended rim size for a 275/40-18 is between 9 and 11 inches.

Here's one mounted on a 9" wide wheel.

Anything wider on a 9" rim just won't look right.

I wouldn't go over 275.

i agree w/ the above replies; 275. i have 315's on 9.5" wheels, and while they fit fine they do bulge out a bit.

Yea but if 315's fit on a 9.5 with a little bulge shouldn't 295's fit on a 9 inch rim? After all a 1/2 shouldn't make that big of a difference should it?

The 295s will fit fine, but I guess we're trying to point out that the look won't be what most would consider to be 'right'.

315s on a 9.5" wheel aren't really ideal either, but they'll work too just like 295s will on a 9" wheel.

You can stray a bit from recommended rim width for a certain size tire, but they won't work (corner) quite as well as one mounted on a rim within the recommended range. Mounting a tire on the widest recommended wheel for that particular size always works best, but we don't always have that choice.

And various tires (manufactures) are smaller looking for the same number size. I have goodyear F1s and they are a largish tire. If you were to use that tire I would go with goodyears recommendations for wheel width.

Some manufactures tires look smaller and you can mount them up and they look great. But then yer always forced to use a similar "small" tire.

I have 285s on a 10" wheel, which is the measured rim width for that tire, and it looks ok. But a Sumi tire for example would look stretched. GY F1 has a measured rim of 9.5" for the 275. And a 10.5" rim for the 295. JR

Yep, I would not go more than 275 on a 9". I am running 275 on a 9.5" front.

How do you like the G-Force Sports? That is what I am thinking of getting.
