Here is a shot of my 06 Charger that I have painted the sides of the lights body color and the centers tinted.

I have some pics of my 80 Z/28 with the tails tinted and it was a red/orange color. I will have to dig for a little while to find those and post them up.

On the Charger I used VHT Nite Shades, spray can tint. With this material you can choose how light or dark you want to make the tails. I shot several coats on the Charger lenses and then blocked them with 1000 grit and clear coated them when I got the desired level of darkness I wanted. The first time I did them they were a little too dark so I had to block the clear off and then block the tint down some more. I tinted the lenses to where the chrome rings inside the lights where still visible through the tint and that proved to be the level I wanted. I have not had any issues with LEO's since I have done this about a year ago. Before I had some Rockblockers tint on the lenses and they were trimmed to match the center section stripe of the Daytona Package.

I like the painted and tinted lights the best.

On my 80 Z/28 I used the VHT and just sprayed it raw and left it as it dried. I'm not sure how hard it would be to block those lenses but I wanted more of a semi-gloss look to match the center section between the lenses. I will look for pics of that and get them up this weekend.

After making this reply I understand now that you are talking about painting the body area around and between the taillights black and not the lenses themselves, Opps. I thought that on Camaro's that meant a Big Block equipped car.

My car isn't orange but yellow should give you an idea.

That used to be the only way to tell a car had a Big Block from the factory in the old days. :) Mine didn't, but it does now.https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/P7150053-1.jpg
