thanks for the compliments fellas.

Shiro666 if you have wheels w/ tires dismounted you owe it to your fellow enthusiasts to WEIGH YOUR WHEELS! ;)

the wheels in post #4 i actually bought from syborg tt a few years ago. great guy to deal w/, i hope to meet him in person someday.

bbcc, the hubs are stock s10. i got the hubs and brackets from ebmiller88; i'm pretty sure he (his name is ed) is on this forum. below is a copy and paste of a mini how-to i did that gives the basics on installing C5 brakes on belltech 2100 spindles.

i bought ed’s bracket and hub kit w/ these options: hubs, standard long studs; C5 brackets for S10 spindle (same mounting points as belltech 2100 drop spindles), Earl's front lines, Timken inner/outer bearings/seals, grade 8 or metric equivalent mounting bolts/hardware, install guide. $355.00

i decided to piece together the rest of the brakes. in the end, i didn’t save that much money over ed’s package price, so if I had to do it over again i’d probably just buy the calipers, rotors, and pads from him as well. but, if you have a way to get cheap GM parts, by all means give it a try.

NOTE: PART #'S AND PRICES HAVE SURELY CHANGED SINCE 01-01-2006

if you don’t want the red z06 calipers, below are the part #’s for the unpainted C5 caliper.

1 - GM PART # 12530682 RIGHT FRONT CALIPER GM LIST: $183.27 OUR PRICE: $91.64
1 - GM PART # 12530683 LEFT FRONT CALIPER GM LIST: $183.27 OUR PRICE: $91.64

so I amassed all of the above parts. some may feel confident enough to do the spindle modifications while the spindle is on the truck; I did NOT.

i decided to take everything apart and replace my inner/outer tie rod ends, paint my spindles, and just do some general clean up under there.

so I took the front suspension off. remove your spindles. ed’s brackets bolt onto the spindle using the existing dust shield holes. set the brackets on the spindle as best you can. once you do this, it’s pretty obvious how much of the spindle’s “ears” need to be hacked off.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/truck_031thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album239/truck_031.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/truck_033thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album239/truck_033.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/truck_034thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album239/truck_034.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/truck_035thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album239/truck_035.sized.jpg)

these cuts don’t have to be exact, but I tried to make the cuts as exact as possible to keep as much “meat”, or metal, on the spindle intact. i used a hacksaw, which surprisingly did a pretty good job, and i cleaned up the edges mostly using a dremel, but i also used a file.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/joe_s_brakes_004thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album239/joe_s_brakes_004.jpg)

as i said before, ed’s brackets bolt on using the existing dust shield holes on the spindle. these need to be drilled out and tapped to 7/16”. use a drill press if available.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/joe_s_brakes_005thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album239/joe_s_brakes_005.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/joe_s_brakes_008thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album239/joe_s_brakes_008.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/joe_s_brakes_010thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album239/joe_s_brakes_010.jpg)

now bolt the brackets onto the spindle.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/joe_s_brakes_012thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album239/joe_s_brakes_012.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/joe_s_brakes_013thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album239/joe_s_brakes_013.jpg)

i did all of this off of the truck to be sure that i drilled the holes perfectly straight and to be sure that the rotors i got weren't warped from the factory. no grinding or anything, so everything checked out.

now just take everything apart and assemble it on your truck.

So... They don't make them anymore? What's the size of the primary tubes and collector?

So... They don't make them anymore? What's the size of the primary tubes and collector?

no LHT doesn't make anything domestic anymore. 1-5/8" primary w/ 3" collector.

if you're considering a SBC swap into a s-series and are leaning towards a pro-touring truck, the only longtubes that stay w/in the frame rails (and don't kill your turning radius) are hedman hedders 69490.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=HED%2D69490&view=32&N=700+

if you want to go 1-3/4" you'll have to live w/ one header tube exiting from your wheelwell. which is fine if you're only passion is drag racing :bsjerk:.

Thanks for the tip... I'm about to do a swap into an 84 S10.. 383 LT1 motor and T56 trans..... I'm leaning towards a custom stainless header. I don't like the headers that are on the market. There's no way I'm going with the fenderwell headers! I'll do some drag racing but not that much! LOL

I've seen 1 3/4 custom set that had all the tubes inside the frame.. I'll look into that.... I might put it on plates and discard the mounts, atleast I'll get some extra room.. I was planning on trying to put 1 7/8 in there :enguard:

Anyways... Good luck with your project, I dig it!!

thanks for the compliments guys, i do appreciate it all!

bought some stuff. sparco pedals, GMC grille, black powder coated grille insert.

gas tank installed. the 13g is so cute compared to the stock 20g :D.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/03/IMG_0946thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album495/IMG_0946.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/03/IMG_0947thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album495/IMG_0947.jpg)

i ended up using bicycle inner tubes as pads/dampeners for the gas tank. they were free (you can pick up old ones at any bike shop) and won't rot like whatever it is GM used as pads.

i've been fartin' around w/ the interior as well. going to go w/ an all black interior. the truck is a 1992, and the interior is (was) blue. pure 80s, so it's time to update.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/interior-revamp/IMG_0941.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/interior-revamp/IMG_0942.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/interior-revamp/IMG_0945.jpg)

also figured out how i'm going to mount the SRT-4 neon seats in my truck. i'm basically going to cut off the "feet" of my stock seat tracks, then bolt those my floorboard, mate them to the SRT-4 seat tracks w/ a couple of spot welds, then remove and finish weld. i can't weld, but my friend is getting pretty good at it so i'm going to give him a shot.

SRT-4 tracks on the left and stock s10 on the right. the blue tape denotes where i made my cuts. more to come.

bought some stock taillights from LMC. three days later, one tail shows up with a note on the receipt letting me know that one of the taillights is on backorder. the other tail shows up and i immediately notice that one is made by "TYC" and the other is made by "DEPO"

freakin' A, the reverse lights are different sized squares. WTF?!? freakin' chinese sh|t.

i tried working w/ LMC to get two taillights made by "DEPO" as i felt they were better quality over the "TLC" taillights, but LMC only sells "TLC" taillights exclusively now. meh. LMC was very good about a full refund though.

i think the motor is in its final position. it took a lot of fanaggling to make sure the passenger side header cleared the firewall, frame, and transmission bellhousing. still working on the transmission crossmember. i think i'll have something on it in another few weeks. upon mocking up the transmission crossmember i found that i'll need to have the driveshaft shortened 1-1/2".

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/05/IMG_1165thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album492/IMG_1165.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/05/IMG_1166thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album492/IMG_1166.jpg)

probably not, but i'm going to try both and see which one i like better.

Hey do you still have the 315 tires on the 9.5" wide centerline wheels? How dodid they fit?

i have since sold the centerlines and replaced them w/ 9.5" ZR1 replica wheels. the 315s fit OK on it, and the tire jockey at discount didn't have a problem mounting them. they do buldge a bit, but nothing unslightly. i only went w/ the 315s because i got a smokin' deal on them. the widest i'd go if i had to pay full price is a 295.

some nice progress joe....

FirstGenZq8

progress has slowed. a lot.

back in october 09 i discovered that my motor builder put plugs in the back of my heads. on gen 2 LT1s, those ports are where the coolant/steam tubes are bolted down. access to those plugs is impossible w/ how far i had it mounted, so i took my cab off. lots of room to get at those plugs. driver side; peice of cake. passenger side; not so much. the plug in the passenger head was a square drive plug. i broke a few of my tools trying to remove that thing. tried drilling/extracting it and broke 3 extractors. ended up removing it and taking it to my builder. i should have just done that in the first place .

bought some percy's header gaskets PHP-66031 (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=PHP%2D66031&N=700+0&autoview=sku) and got those on. i also ground down one of the fins on the passenger side of the T56 that was hitting one of the header primaries.

got the passenger head back, put it on and got the valvetrain set up. installed the steam tube. intake manifold. put together my fuel rails w/ the 30# injectors (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=FMS%2DM%2D9593%2DB302&N=700+0&autoview=sku). installed the aeromotive FPR (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=AEI%2D13107&N=700+115&autoview=sku) as well.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/01/IMG_1918thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album536/IMG_1918.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/01/IMG_1922thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album536/IMG_1922.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/01/IMG_1924thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album536/IMG_1924.jpg)

i seem to have misplaced the bolts that BBK included w/ their throttle body, so for now i have it on there w/ just the top two stock TB bolts. glad i keep everything (mostly). got the accessory bracket on and mounted the power steering, idler/tensioner and AC delete pullies.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/01/IMG_1938thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album536/IMG_1938.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/01/IMG_1939thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album536/IMG_1939.jpg) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/01/IMG_1941thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album536/IMG_1941.jpg)

decided to chuck my stock transmission crossmember. i've seen that a few companies sell universal xmembers. thought about that route, then i saw THIS (http://www.kitcarmag.com/techarticles/0707kc_california_hauler/photo_04.html) article. it would have been a lot of work to notch the stock xmember to run my driver side exhaust so a buddy who's helped me since day 1 went ahead and made one for me. it's a simple 1X2 14 gauge mild steel design. roughly 36" long and boxed on the edges. i used 3/16" for the "L" brackets that i welded to the frame to mount the xmember.

My cusin has pretty much the same build. His is a 91, its orange, Caprice 4.3 V8 (soon to be a LT1 302), ladder bar 9 inch, clean little truck. He is on the S10V8.org broads. I do not know his avatar name but his real name is C.T. If you had any questions about wiring or anything he could help you out. By the looks of things you dont need any help. Here is his other s-10. Pretty fun when it running. Got tore down to be built pro-street twin huffed.

i took my truck to a local shop to get the last few things finished.

in the meantime i've been fartin' around w/ my garage.

before:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/12/DSCF0002thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album445/DSCF0002.jpg)

it's a 21X20. 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of gloss white on my 70s ear wood paneling.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/10/IMG_3199thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album566/IMG_3199.jpg)

two fold up tables and a 3X2 spray paint can cabinet.

storage rack for wheels/tires.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/10/IMG_3200thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album566/IMG_3200.jpg)

VCT. it laid down pretty easily once i got the hang of it. ignore the brown couch, it's gone.

after waiting 4 months, a deal on some used kitchen cabinets presented itself. i love craigslist.

i still have some painting to do. i put casters on most everything so i can wheel it all out of the garage if needed.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/10/IMG_3318thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album566/IMG_3318.jpg)

i gave my metal cabinets the same red/black treatment:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/10/IMG_3319thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album566/IMG_3319.jpg)

i decided not to paint above the garage door. i kinda want to remind myself of how ugly the paneling was before.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/10/IMG_3322thumb-1.jpg (http://s-seriesforum.com/albums/album566/IMG_3322.jpg)

it runs!

qTqcEzffgfQ&feature

shaved the front bumper carriage bolts and added the foglight pockets.

rear bumper is a blazer bumper with all of the molding slits filled. now just need to sand/bondo/sand/sand/sand/paint them both. i'm thinking black - but should i do blue?

the interior is still a hot mess, but all of the gauges work. the interior is something i'll fart w/ once the truck goes home.

alignment is set for next week, with base tuning coming shortly thereafter. dyno tune is going to be sometime in june hopefully.

I know I'm bumping an older thread, but whatever. I found pics of this truck on another webpage, and it's SOOOO close to what I have planned, right down to the frenched foglights in the front bumper. It's my background now on my laptop. lol

Was wondering if there were any pics of the finished front bumper (in body color?)

Thanks!

your timing is actually eerie. i removed the bumpers on saturday and am finally going to prime/paint them in the coming weeks. i'm going to do some parade laps at circuit of the americas on october 31. there will be professional photographers there that'll snap better pics than i ever could.

Nice to see you still have it, seems like a lot of people just jump from one project to another. I'll keep an eye out.

I recently picked up an 86 S-10 base model, that had been cut for a convertible conversion. I got a second cab with it, so I'm putting a roof back on it, and then it's getting a 6.0L/4L80E out of the donor 2500HD I bought. Other than the fact it'll be getting a roll pan instead of a rear bumper, I plan to leave the outside basically stock, with frenched fogs in the bumper and Corvette wheels (either Argent C5 Z06 wheels, or later Chrome 5 spokes from a late model C6.)

thanks guys.

in no particular order, for suspension it's got belltech 2" drop spindles, 550# QA1 coilovers, PST front and rear swaybars, prothane total kit, GTA steering box, zq8 frame brace, C5 13” front brakes, 4th gen f-body rear brakes, ground force 3 in mono leaf # 2010, caltrac-copied traction bars, 1.25" rear lowering blocks/axle set back plates, speedway UCAs, gbodyparts.com LCAs.

got the bumpers painted. after looking at the pics, i think i need to adjust my front bumper.

bitchin truck, great job you did on it!

thank you!

i was going to get to drive a parade lap at circuit of the americas (COTA) back in october, but torrential rain and tornados really messed that place up on halloween.

the rescheduled date was january 23rd. and it was a blast. it was supposed to be 2 or 3 parade laps for 300 drivers. it was a charity event so a % of the proceeds went to somewhere. what started as 2 or 3 parade laps turned into about 10! all for $60!

the parade laps were supposed to be limited to 80 mph around the track, but as the morning went on, no one was too worried about the parade speed limit.

COTA is a beautiful place and a great track. can't say enough good things about it.

oh man i would've loved to have seen you out there. did you go to brianne corn raceway instead that day?

wow you got to run the full course ! SWEET! you had way too much fun it sounds like lol how did truck feel out there?

overall the truck did very well. it's gratifying to know that the hodgepodge of parts i've thrown into it work very well together. two separate drivers who followed me commented on how impressed they were how quick i was, and not on the straights, but on the corners. it's no miata by any means, but for what it is it does all right.

two issues did arise though. i need to have my T56 rebuilt. towards the end of the laps it was getting very upset at me for asking it to downshift so much. also i need to go wider in the front. i have 8" fronts w/ 245s, i'd like to go w/ 9.5" fronts and 275s. also, not needed, but i'd like to make my 10" rears w/ 305s to 11" and 335s.

my wife would kill me if lips and barrels showed up on the front porch though. transmission first.

I really need to strip the good bits off my truck and put them on a 1st gen. I also need to pull the motor and trans out of my firebird and put them in said 1st gen :)

tyson i need to find your build thread and see how you fit your wheels/tires in the front, adapter size, how much you're lowered, rubbing issues, etc.

first gens are CHEAP. i'm partial to them, but you've got a sharp truck. keep it!

im running a 94 c1500 and i have 335/35/19 on all 4 corners and no rubbing anywhere and ive learned there is no subsistute for tire width when it comes to handling.

Solid first gens are hard to find in Eastern Canada but I'm keeping my eyes open.

I don't know how much I'm lowered from stock but my fender lips are around 25 3/4" on all corners now. First gens have less tire clearance in the front so fitment will probably be different. In the front I can clear 275/40's on either 4th gen f-body 17x9's or C5 'vette 17x9.5 wheels just using a 2.5" adapter. I can't clear the C6 17x9.5's that I run on the 'bird with that spacer, the UCA hits the lip of the wheel (hard). Clearance in the rear is no problem: with a 2.5" adapter I could clear an 18x10.5 with a 295/35. I would occasionally scuff the inside of the box on a really hard auto-X transition but only enough to lightly buff the paint. I could probably go to a 3" spacer on all sides and still clear the fender lips.

I don't have a thread on here yet, I don't have enough motor to qualify for pro-touring (yet)! Project thread is here http://www.s10planet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15359&page=38

do you know the offsets and/or BS of the f-body 17X9's and C5 17X9.5's?

i'm slowly making my way through your thread. it's gonna take awhile.
