well I have seen this topic covered several times on this board over the years but I can't remember who to contact or what to do. I am wanting to insure my camaro when I take the camaro for paint. Since the car is not running I am wondering if I should just contact my reg. auto insurer or use someone else? Any suggestions.

Hagerty Insurance

They cover collector cars and boat insurance. 800.922.4050. I have my GTO and a 2001 Mustang Saleen S/C insured with them.

Roger,

Are there any restrictions on the Saleen policy through Hagerty? Is it full coverage? How's the discount compared to a regular policy?

Thanks!

I recently put my camaro, vette and malibu on a policy with Haggerty. I found it interesting that the malibu (80 and mildly modified) cost as much as the other two combined. The other two cars are both original and big block cars. Insurance companies are funny about anything that has been modified, even slightly, so everyone beware of assuming you are covered. Make sure your agent understands what you actually have rather than what the v.i.n. states. It is way better to do this now than to find out after a problem that you are not covered.

I have Haggarty and like the coverage. When my 8-pt went in, my car moved to the modifeid category and premium's increased 50%. Having said that, I have full coverage, no deductible and they also have nice towing options.

Last time I looked at Hagerty I thought they wouldn't cover cars with roll bars/cages? I remember thinking it was strange. Did they give you any trouble about it Rick?

None at all. I called, said I was having an 8-pt bar put in and wanted to increase my coverage. Sent a pic and it was done. The only matter they have told me would not be allowed would be a supercharger. I don't know where the line would be if, say, I said I was having a full cage put in!

AAA Insurance was $1600.00 per year for the Saleen. Hagerty yearly cost is $450.00. I have a $1000 deductible. Only restrictions is that the car will be driven as occasional vehicle. They request that you do not exceed 5,000 miles per year. Attention guys, most rates are based on the value you determine the cars worth. The higher the value, the higher the rate. R.P.

I was just looking up insurance as well. I found this page with a list of several Insurance Companies that deal with classic cars. http://www.buyclassiccars.com/insure.asp

Any other good companies out there for comparison?
