Leaf spring suspension travel

Hi, just after some advice on minimum suspension travel for a typical street car with leaf springs. I have dropped my Mustang really low and am concerned about bottoming out on the bump stops. I will be trimming them but just want to know how much travel is considered practical on the street. I am thinking around 3 inches?
