Just wanted to show off the deal I scored. I've been wanting a black 01-02 WS6 6 speed TA for years but never wanted to pay what everyone was asking. I found this one on ebay a few days ago with the starting bid at $5400. I bid expecting that by the time it ended it would be more than I wanted to spend. Well over the next 2 days I was out bid twice and the seller dropped his reserve twice. I watched it for the last 30 mins of the auction and I was high bidder at $6500 with the reserve met. I almost crapped! I had already done a ****** report and it matched what the seller was saying. His brother bought it new and he has had it for the last year. No record of any damage ever done. It's got 165,000 miles on it but that doesn't mean much to me, and with the money saved I can rebuild and modify the engine if I need to soon. But I'm sure it's got a lot of life left in it. I've never seen a 6spd ws6 go for so low unless it was wrecked, even the high mileage ones go for more. The nada clean trade in value is $9500. Well anyway that last 30 mins was pretty intense hoping no one out bid me lol. Here's some pics.

You talking twin turbos? How'd you know that's what I want to do? lol. I'm not sure if I will though. This and my 89 will be my DDs. I'll drive the 89 when I don't feel like shifting lol. The 67 will be my big project when I go home. And if I put the ls1 in it that I have I think I'll fab a single turbo for it.

Oh I forgot to mention what got me looking at 4th gen TAs again. See the engine in my sig? The headers that came with it are for a 4th gen and they won't work in any of my other cars of course. And I can't let them go to waste so I had to find a car that fit them lol.

I always wanted one of those too
I remember when they were new I wanted one bad but I had a New born on my hands and was a single parent.
No way I could afford one then, Even now what did I buy? for a DD a TDI Jetta! always leaning to the responsible side!

But I do have a few toys now

Remember this commercial? I almost pooped when I saw this back in 97/98, whenever it first aired. I've wanted one ever since

Thanks Cliff. I see you changed your name. I'll post some more pics of the car when I get home on leave in Feb. I'll post a few of my 67 also. I bought a set of Fikse profile 5s wheels for it on ebay a couple months ago. I think I'll order a few of the body panels I need. I'll bolt a 400 hood on it, throw the wheels on it, and post some pics.

I always wondered where the 70 came from in your old name. It must be long gone cause in the couple years I've been on here I've never seen it lol.

I bought this car while I was in Iraq and hadn't even seen it until 2 days ago. The pics above were off ebay, so here's a few of the ones I took.

I don't know what kind of mud they have down in Florida but this crap didn't want to come off lol

The interior is pretty nice other than this but not too bad considering the mileage of the car

The paint is worse than I had hoped

The clear is looks pretty bad and is pealing on the hood

This car was neglected pretty bad. My truck is a year older with almost the same mileage and it's in fantastic shape. The rear end makes a lot of noise, sounds like a bearing. Maybe a pinion bearing because it goes away when you let off the gas. It doesn't really sound like a gear noise though, so I'm guessing a bearing.

But for $6500 it was still a good deal. I'll build a stronger rear axle, see if I can touch up the paint a little, and get it cleaned up and fix the little leaks and other little things and it'll be good to go.

It's hard to beat a black TA for a fun street car ain't it?

nice. now you can look for one for me, too.

i think these cars are getting to be the best performance per dollar value on the market.

Paint it flat black. I have always thought that year model TA would be really mean in a flat black color. It may be a Carrier bearing going out. I had an 2000 Z28 and had the carrier bearing go out and wound up having to replace that and the axle.

the 6 spd kills rear's trust me I've killed 3 and I'm not one to smoke the tires. I would check the main carrier bearings first as trinty said I had one go out on me too and it's also a very easy fix compared to the pinion. if you have the money save up for a 9 inch rear.
the motor stock with that tranny is know to kill the rear. good news though is the rest of the driveline can hold up to the abuse.
good deal on the car btw I've owned 2 4gen's and currently looking for my third. I love the car's and they are a great platform to mod.

I will agree with dogger on the rear ends being the weak points in the drive trains. I had some buddies that did a lot of LS1 stuff at their speed shop some time ago and they were always fixing rear ends for customers. Especially those who had upgraded other parts of the drivetrain. They liked nine inch swaps. I was also pretty easy on my car most of the time and still had the carrier bearing/axle issue. I think mine had less than 50K when mine went out.

I think I'll try to pull the carrier before I head back to Iraq next month and see what the bearings look like. The limited slip doesn't work either. It would be nice to at least get rid of the noise so I can drive it when I come home again in the summer. Maybe I'll just spring for a 9" or see if I can score a good deal on a used one on an LSx forum.
