Does anyone know if Classic Industries 2" drop springs are any good?

We have them on our 69 Camaro and have no idea what the springrate is. They didn't lower the car at all, in fact they raised it up about an inch.

I was thinking about cutting the coils and putting a good set of shocks on the car. But if the springs aren't any good I will just buy a new set. (car will be used for some autox, so handling is important!)

I have purchased many items from Classic Industries. Most items they buy in from other suppliers. Call them and ask for the spring rates etc. They are most probably as per the original items as CI sell reproduction or OEM parts. If you are AutoXing I would wait till the suspension gurus on this site let you know which brand or custom poundages to try.
Much of this depends on your engine, tryes, rollbars, personal preference and driving style.
You may still have to cut if not using adjustable coil overs.
If you do cut them use an angle grinder with a cutoff disc. Stop and wet spring with cold water periodically. Do not let it get hot! The Camaro spring is half way between the control arm pivot and the wheel centre. Therefore if you cut beyond the lowest coil that touches the one above at the bottom of the spring 1" will be approx 2" at the wheel. This is approx due to the compression so go slowly. 1/2 coil or less at a time. I was lucky to do it in one cut!!!!!!

The spring pitch is not equal along the entire spring. How did you solve that? Did you cut on the top or low end of the spring?

About drop springs, I bought tall 2" drop spindles from Matts camaro, it was Fatman types. I could not use them because of interference between the rim and the steering arms. They did drop the car as wanted and I can tell that 2" drop is really a lot, 1" should normally be sufficient. When I saw the distance between the oil pan and the pavement I got scared. Now I sold them and intend to cut the springs instead (going for 1" drop).

The bottom line is you must be careful to check all possibilities for interference before you buy the spindles or tires and rims. Good luck.

So what is a good springrate to go with? I know hotchkis is supposed to have some really good springs but I have no idea what the springrate on those are either.
