That's good for today's standard's but i still miss the cars of the late 70's and early 80's.
I remember driving around in a 75 datsun B210 that would pull 32-5mpg city all year long and on trips would knock down 42mpg all of the time and the aero on it wasn't that good compared to todays cars. It was however very light and probably a little deadlier according to crash standards of today. I still don't quite agree with crash standards of today because you can still be no match for a semi or a train and a big tree. We have fattened ourselves to remain the same except for the way most look. We are as fat as our cars according to statistics and I think if it wasn't mostly in our heads we could have kept accidents down and maybe not needed to keep the status quo on mileage that we have.
I want to see 60mpg on cars before I believe we have made progress.
I also keep wondering about what Honda is going to do with the Brown's gas technology they recently bought from the man who invented the browns gas cutting torch? I don't to start that debate again but it is interesting to think that it might slip into the mainstream with enough force of the hand.
How many of you want to see 60mpg in a small compact car again like the Geo Metros?

Thing is Europe has Turbo Diesels that will get that without all the fancy hybrid stuff for a lot less money.
Supposedly BMW has some Hybrids coming out soon, with plans to couple plug in hybrid tech with a diesel, should up the MPG considerably.
