I have a 70-77 camaro fender that I sold and need to ship. The UPS store wants $350 to box and ship (to within the same state!). They aso claim it needs to go UPS freight due to size.
Has anyone shipped a fender? How did you ship? How much was it?

Ship it using greyhound bus lines. It is dirt cheap shipping. I have purchased 2 fenders and a bumper using them.

I was thinking that may be the way to go, I will look into them.
Thanks,

I ordered a fender from a guy on ebay a while back. I know the shipping wasnt that much, I think I only paid $120 to my door.
Sorry I can't help as far as details. I have heard about that greyhound shipping method, it's very cheap.

DHL will take bigger packages than UPS and FedEx. I had a large 64 GTO deck lid shipped to me by DHL with no problems and I think it was around $100 from New York to Texas.
The UPS store prices seem higher than regular UPS rates in my experience.

I think you are right. We still use them for overseas so I didn't notice. Sorry about that.

Wrap it in bubble wrap that has the bubbles of 3/4" to 1" in size bubbles and then in double wall cardboard as tight to the bubble wrap as you can. You will have to use areas of cardboard and bend it around the shape and not make a big square box out of it. You will need a roll of GOOD clear packaging tape to do it right. This will make the size of the fender as small of a package as it can be.
By doing this you should be able to keep any dents and scrapes off and stuff that may hit it from doing damage. I have sent many fenders this way. Some make it through UPS and some don't I would go with DHL since it was stated they go bigger and they have less damage from what I know of. The camaro fender if I remember right will go UPS but they are Gorillas this time of year. Have you ever seen the Samsonite Gorilla? He went to work for UPS when they stopped the commercials.
Greyhound is not a bad deal either. But they can be a bit a bit harder to work with and will sometimes not handle with as much care.
No matter who you ship it with make sure you insure it for the proper amount at any price.

Thanks guys! :1st:
Jim - I printed your packing instructions, thanks!
Looks like I can get the package to Long Island for less than $60 insured. A big difference from $350!!!
