hello everyone, new to the site. This is my project ive been working on it for about 3 years now and its almost ready, its a 68 dart with a 440 long tube cross ram, 727 torqueflight, chrome 8 3/4 rear. The hood and the grill is going to be black, undecided if i want the rims to be black or leave them polished. Just finished getting it painted this weekend, came out better than i ever expected. Hope to learn more from everyone here. Thanks, Joe

thanks guys, its really been a great time working on it(for the record a guy in a wheel cahir did all of the body work, its amazing what he can do). Im trying to get it done asap cause i go away for college next year at wyotech in pennsylvania so i really want to drive it before i go. Its going to be a long year with out it :banghead:, but ill learn alot there. This is the stuff i want to do for a living, i love pro touring cars so we'll see where it takes me. This is the car that got me into actually building one. me and my father built it, took about 3 years.

joe440
12-10-2008, 08:13 PM
ya i think they're going to be black, and the interior is also going to be black with black suede inserts, i was going to do a tan but it would of cost way to much.
this was done by a fellow member on here, looks awsome i even like the rims, i believe there volk te37's which are big$, my rims wont be that big though around 18's back, 17's front, dam a body mopars cant fit nothing big under there

You can use 18's on front and 20+ on the rear if you wanted. I have 255/35/18 front--345/30/19 on the rear of my Demon.

Color looks good, especially with the black hood

Did you change anything that would effect the spacing, cause mines pretty much stock under there, i know i could go a little bigger but i want some meat on the tires. Plus living in new england doesn't help with the pot hole infested roads.

In the rear yes, minitub. In the front the space is the same (didnt widen the fenders/frame rails), my wheel backspace is custom however for the suspension and brakes offset.

This Valiant runs a 275/40/17 in front w/ stock suspension and aftermarket brakes

Either of these would be killer. The Magnums can be had for the Dodge with the correct center cap. They're from Wheel Vintiques.

my friend let me borrow his tires and rims just to see if they'd fit, it was a long shot but they actually fit dam good, its a 10" tire which i didnt even think was going to fit but they do, The offset is almost perfect, its gonna need to go out about a 1/4" more when i get the rimss just so it clears the leaf springs a little more.

dash is all done and wired, made the wiring pannel, tail lights wired, headlights wired, tan the battery cable froms the trunk, painted the front black that shows through from the grill and started cleaning under the front end.Under the dash is white because when working on it, it lightens it up a lot better than doing it all black.

Nice job so far. The color will make it stand out amongst all the others. Should be a fun ride. The only thing I can't warm up to is the hood. Not the fact it's black, but the air cleaner placement. It just looks awkward to me, something under the hood would have been more subtle, or small bulges to give more underhood clearance. That's just me tho, have some fun!

Wow! Amazing Dart! I can't believe the manifolds fit!

I'd do a black center and brushed rim. Unless you anidized the whole rim black. Also have you considered doing the dodge demon/dart dual scoops? you could offset them and make people wonder...

When are you going to Wyotech? Summer or fall?

Beautiful car BTW.

joe440
03-19-2009, 01:04 PM
thanks, the rim comes satin black from centerline so i'm sure they do the whole wheel. thought of the scoops, those just arent my style. And wyotech...im not sure if im going now. my dad needs my help at his shop so ill probably stay home. but the year after i hope to move to cali where my uncle is and he has a bunch of connections in the automotive industry and hopefully find me a job. ive also done a lot of research lately about wyotech and what the kids think. for me, i feel they'll be teaching me things i already know and i dont want a job in some mom and pop body shop. we'll see how it all goes...

I could go either way on the intake being black vs brushed. But, for a car your going to drive, black will look good longer. Very different though thats for sure (in a very good way).

I wouldn't mistake it for say, a RPM Air Gap ;)

Well looking at your pics and reading your updates I would say you are pretty much past what Wyotech would teach you. I would know I graduated in 2001 in Laramie. Its a good school for "the basics" and I would say you learned those a while ago. Keep up the good work hope my nova starts looking that good. Oh and I would go with all black wheels!

ya i think they're going to be black, and the interior is also going to be black with black suede inserts, i was going to do a tan but it would of cost way to much.
this was done by a fellow member on here, looks awsome i even like the rims, i believe there volk te37's which are big$, my rims wont be that big though around 18's back, 17's front, dam a body mopars cant fit nothing big under there
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Rota makes a knock off in as wide as 18x9.5. I love this look, those are one of my favorite wheels. It looks so rad!
Here's the roat wheel link:
http://www.wheeldude.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=5870

Not too bad at $950/set. Much cheaper than real Volks.

Here's a pic from the link too.

This build is :1st:

I gotta read the rest of the pages. Hopefully I'm not duplicating by posting these rotas.

Edit again: I've never seen an intake setup like that. So unique and cool. So, do those long runners make killer torque? Wow on the whole build! Can't wait to see what wheels you went with!

I came 'this' close to building a '70 swinger once; friend and I were going to buy a complete one at the junk yard, he had a 400 in a dodge P/U for it. but when we went to pick it up, they had sold off the door glass, RIPPING UP the tops of the doors in the process!
the cross ram is real cool; do what makes you happy.

I think the air cleaners coming through the hood looks absolutely ridiculous...but that's just me, may want to look into some sort of scoop or cowl coverings. Be careful with those UCA's as well, the welds have been known to fail. Epicly

Loving your build. I've seen pieces of it on BBD but haven't seen the entire thing. I'm building a 69 Dart, in the slow goings now though. 5.7 Hemi, Alterk, RMS 4 link, Keilser 5 speed and some trick electrical stuff. Your ride is coming together awesome. Can you tell me a bit about how you put together your dash? I have never fabricated anything in my life and my first is going to be the dash on my car and I'm not sure where to start. I'm looking to build something similar to yours, but flat all the way from the drivers edge to the edge of the glove box. Thanks a bunch, keep up the good work, looks awesome!

Kinda a cross between the dart stripe and the superbee one... And you could either go cartoonish or not for the stuff in it.

thanks, coudln't be happier with how it runs. throttle response is instant. when crusing at 20 or so and put it to the floor is when you feel the most power. you wouldnt believe how many mopar know it all guys tried telling me how bad its gonna run and it wont ever start cause the intakes will be to cold out there with out the heat exchangers on it (i cut them off). so to them, :bsjerk:. haha

heat pipes (or stove pipes), like coolant lines in the intake, are for quicker warm ups and better emissions. but for a car like yours, they aren't neccessary.

put a new exhaust in, went smooth for the most part but didnt end up using the front peice for each side cause my old exhaust lined up with it and i had a 2 bolt header flange not 3 which is what the kit gives. deffanitly putting my other mufflers back on, very upset with the ones they give you. still gotta line them up in the back and trim one side of the tail pipe back. may even cut them back a foot or so and just put two 90 degree bends shooting down and out
