i am not sure if this has been posted before or not but has anyone gotten into burning their own custom chips and modifying bin files? i am working on maf tpi set ups if that helps at all. i am really interested in doing this to save money but maybe i am better off paying for chips to be made for me?? thanks for any help!

I've done it for my 1990 C4 vette with MAP for a 400 in solid roller motor with a superram. There is a learning curve, but if you have a good understanding of motors, sensors and computers it is very short. I have not tuned a MAF motor so I am not sure what the differences are. The most difficult part for me is optimizing the spark maps.

Funcars pretty much sumed it up about what you need to know. I have the Autoprom from Moates.Net. It is $329 and will do anything you need to do. Like burn any number of chips you can burn. Any mod you do will need a new chip. Want to fine-tune your setup is no problem with the Autoprom.

I bought a TPIS Level 5 chip and paid $575 for it. I did a few things to my motor and had Fastchips burn me another one. Another $350 bucks. Had I known all that before I bought those 2 chips ...well. Let's just say if you know how and what to burn you can buy a LOT of blank chips for the extra money.

I just need to learn on that "What" part so I can burn my own chips, too.

I've been doing my own chips for my cars with the help from thirdgen.org and stuff from moates.net. As stated, there is a learning curve, but I got my cars, and others, running exactly how I want them. I am working on tuning my turbo buick now.
