View Full Version : Kenny's Hurt Bad - Please Keep him in your Prayers

Morning,
Yesterday when Kenny Davis (www.kdhotrods.com ) was out Rock crawling he was ejected from the vehicle. As it rolled over it landed on him crushing his skull. He was life flighted to Tulsa where they put over 20 plates and more then 30 screws in his head. They had to remove some of his brain tissue that was exposed to prevent infection.
Prior to surgery he was conscious which is a good sign. We just have to hope that the swelling stops and doesn’t cause any damage.
As of this morning Angie said Kenny had a good night and he will be going in for another cat scan this morning with contrast to see what kind of damage there is.
They will also be meeting with the optometrist so they can evaluate the condition of his eye.
Kenny is going to have a long road for recover so please keep Kenny and his family in your prayers.
As I get updates I will post them in the first post so you can check back to see how he is doing.
12-07-08 Update ( TJ Bruning Auto )
A post from someone who was there when the accident happened -
"There was a group of us playing/warming up the rigs at Disney below the west dam and Kenny’s rig developed a vacuum leak. At that time he and another buddy jumped in someone else’s buggy (Kenny Driving) to run to napa to get a part. They were going at very slow speed and not crawling in the sense of the word. At the time of the roll we were down in the bottom by the rock garden and did not see it happen, I don’t think anyone did. I am sure Kenny did not think he needed his belt as he was in a very well built rig and just going from a to b. It took about 20 min for the local ambulance to arrive and another 30 of so for life flight.
All things considered the doctors have been optimistic from the beginning and he was talking right up until the time he went to the OR. Actually he yelled, in true KD fashion, that he was going to be fine and not to worry.
12-07-08 Update
Just in case you haven't seen Blake's post, we're sending shop shirts or whatever else, cards, magazines, candy, flowers, etc. to the hospital since he's going to be there at least 3 weeks.

11-07-08 Update ( Jason R )
Just talked to Travis right now and the very latest catscans revealed that he's healing really well and the fluid is draining, swelling is going down, no bleeding and the doctors are truly surprised and optimistic at how good the scans look and say he'll be out of the ICU this week. Not even close to out of the hospital but out of the ICU which is a big step, so keep the love coming!
12-08-08 Update ( Travis )
Good morning,
First of all I would like to say that Angie is overwhelmed at the support she is gotten and didnt really have words when I told her about the fund that had been set up. All she could say was "trav thats great, thats really great". It has been an emotional roller coaster for all of us that are close to him. I cant give enough thanks to all of you both the guys that know him on a personal level and those of you that have never met him, its just awesome the support we are getting.
As far as the insurance he does have insurance I called the dealership where his employed full time and should have some info back her in a little while. But as of right now keep him in your prayers and thoughts. He is a tuff as they come. He was asking me yesterday when he could go back to work and how much longer he had to be there.
I will try to update everyone as much as I can.
I know this hasnt been touched on but his crawler had broken down so him and another good friend of mine jumped in another guys crawler....a very nice vey capable pro built rig. They were just going to run back to the truck they were around 100yds from the dirt road that would have taken them right back to the truck. Kenny has always been very safety concious when they go crawling this was just one of those freak accidents. It would be like going to the race track and getting hit in the pits. Truely just a freak accident
For those that dont have paypal you can send a money order to my address or any other magazines, etc. He is in room 715 right now but will be moving out in a couple days if all stay well. I will update that as I know.

Just got a text from Angie...Doc said everything looks great and they are moving Kenny out of ICU. No word on the new room number, but he has improved enough to be moved to a regular room.:D
12-10-08 Update 3:00pm
Okay, I just got off the phone with Travis and we are all in shock.
Kenny is going to have another Scan in the morning and if it's good then he may get to go home by the weekend. He will still have to go back weekly for check ups but the news just keeps getting better every day.
So for everyone that was going to be sending him something send it to Travis and he will deliver it to him.

I just got off the phone with Travis.
Kenny had just woken up and started talking... one of the first things he asked was how the crawler he turned over was? asked for his daughter... and was just carrying on [a conversation] as normal. that's great news!
The doctors biggest concerns associated with the head injury are, additional swelling of the brain and infection.
They had to rebuild one of his eye sockets and he isn't able to open that eye at this time. The doctors felt he would have his vision in that eye.
He was also able to move all his LIMBS!
They are doing another cat scan later today I will keep you informed.

Kenny has only been into crawling for a short time, but has already brought a lot to the sport. He is very proud of the Campbell buggy he rebuilt and has done some great work on all of our rigs. He is one of those guys that doesn’t know a stranger and gets along with everyone, better be able to take a joke!! He is one of a kind!!
I am sure Kenny would tell us all to buckle in no matter what so let’s try to keep the vibe positive in this thread. I will be going to Tulsa every chance I get till he comes home so I will take all your prayers and well washings to Kenny and his family.
On their behalf thank you for the support."

Kelle and I were pondering what can be done to help the situation from the outside. I googled the area around the hospital and found a bunch of restaurants and a shopping center down the street. Kenny's getting taken care of in the hospital, but it's also going to be hard on the family and visitors while he's there. Angie is able to stay on-site, but they do live well over an hour away from the hospital.
So after talking to Travis about it, we came up with a plan to use PayPal to help with daily expenses, gas, meals, magazines for Kenny... anything they need.
To contribute, go to PayPal and send any amount you'd like to Travis' email address:

He'll make sure the Davis family gets the donations.
Travis also said Kenny is already bored, and Kenny said "my head hurts!" He's also potentially got a broken big toe, but the rest has all been posted here.
Hopefully Kenny's head heals fast and he's able to get home for the holidays.

Kenny,
Our hearts and prayers are with you in this terrible time, sounds like you are pulling through but you have a long road in front of you.
I just went through this with my brother as he was hit in the head with a gun and it almost killed him, he had emergency surgery to stop the bleeding and a few plates and screws in his head. He has made a full recovery with lots of PT so it’s good news for you with the way people saying you’re moving and talking.
We wish you the very best and a speedy recovery. I know cars are your life but you got to relax and think about you and your family right now the cars will be here when you get better.

Kenny had another excellent day yesterday and is being the kenny we all know more and more everyday. He did get a cast on his right foot yesterday and did suffer from a ruptured ear drumb as well. But he is still making improvements everyday. he should be moved from ICU today if all goes well.
I cant extend enough thanks to all who have donated I will be getting in touch with each and every one of you persoanlly very soon. I apoligize I havent to this point but I will be shortly. The donations are a huge help to kenny and his family and I cant thank all of you guys enough. Im going to see him this afternoon and im going to print this entire thread and take it to his family.
once again thanks for the support and prayers

Kenny is being transferred to Room 1125 and out of ICU this is a huge step. Once again he is at St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa, Ok. As far as I know visiting hours are from 9am-6:00pm and 8pm-10pm but I will verify that after I go over there this evening.

guys, just talked to travis, kenny is still doing awesome, getting better by the min, he is off all his monitors, off his i.v drip. the doctors are blown away by this, and we can only cross our fingers that he keeps infection away. Everyone keep him in your thoughts.

20 plates and 30 screws in his head and he's out of the ICU within 48 hours?
Man, I hope he doesn't miss his home planet Krypton too badly.
Get well soon!

Holy crap, Kenny is definitely from Krypton! I have known some to endure perceivably less impact and take months to recover. Weeks just for cognitive and speech functions.
I guess he had his Wheaties that morning.
Keep on truckin Kenny!!
Just heard from Angie that Kenny was moved to a private room (can't imagine why a perfect stranger in ailing health wouldn't want to be roomed with Kenny and his revolving door of visitors) and the new room # is 1120 and being a private room, his visiting hours are increased but call Angie on his cell phone first to make sure he isn't getting a sponge bath or the like.....
We love you Bro and everyone is thinking about you!

Not to worry the hospital will hold it for him and when he goes back next week he will be able to pick it up.
