hey guys... especially Abody guys.,.

I can possibly get a set of bmw wheels with these backspacings..

18X8.5 - 5.625 front

18x9 - 5.5" rear

Would these backspacings work with a stock 69 GTO?

or would they be sucked up inside those big wheelwells?

thanks for the help guys!

Mr. Vengance

For the Rear:
9 inch rim + 1 inch (outside rim width) - 5.5 inch backspace = 4.5 front space
2 x 4.5 Front space + 61 inch rear = 70 inches total outside tire width
My 68 takes a 72.375 inch outside tire width (barely!!!) so you should have about an inch or so of clearance on the outside. Inside no problem. These should fill out the rear pretty well depends on the tire size.

Note the rear width is an assumption. Measure it because disks vs drums cause a difference. That is wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. BTW I have a 65 rear in my 68 GTO so I can't help you here. I am assuming a 69 rear is about 1 inch wider than my 65 rear.

For the Front:
8.5 inch rim + 1 inch (outside rim width) - 5.626 backspace = 3.875 front space.

This will suck in the front wheels a lot! also with that much back space you will probably hit the control arms at lock. For a stock ride height you will have to run a spacer to get the wheel out a bit (1 to 1.5 inch is my guess) less if you want to run low.

I have more front space and mine are tucked in to clear the fender lip so I can run it low and still be able to turn.

What else do you have planned for your 69?

Hope this helps
