The 69 camaro is getting close to completion, so we've been trying to get all of the parts ready to make it driveable, and of course, like always, I have questions that I can't figure out. Don't laugh... Here goes. (all part numbers through summit racing) Also, please keep in mind that I am on a somewhat tight budget. We can afford to go with new parts, but not the best of the best.

1. Exhaust - will summit SUM-680101 (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D680101&N=700+4294925082+4294908216+4294908198+4294923429+ 4294840140+400304+4294889107+4294920008+115&autoview=sku) pipes work with flowmaster FLO-42541 (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=FLO%2D42541&N=700+4294791975+4294906130+115&autoview=sku) mufflers? Where should the tips dump (if we cut them)?

2. Cooling - Is there anything wrong with getting the summit brand direct fit aluminum radiators? What electric fan setup should we look at (cfm/brand/single or dual)?

3. Pulley system - We are going to go with the standard mount, flat belt conversion from march, but I don't want all of the pieces to be the same finish. It would look better if the brackets were machined and the pulleys were powdercoated black. Anybody know if this can be done through summit, or is a call to March Performance in order? What kind of price difference would would we see if we ordered it through march instead of summit?

4. Gas tank - The car has been sitting for 4 years now (with gas in the tank). If we order a new gas tank, what all should be replaced? Straps? Insulators? Sending unit? Floats? Etc...

5. Windshield wipers - I'm not the one that took the wipers out, but how are they set up? I am asking this because we shaved the firewall, not even thinking about the wiper motor, so we're going to have to relocate the motor to behind the driverside fender. So the real question is: how is the linkage set up?

6. Rear Windshield - The window valley was completely rusted out, so we replaced all of the steel. Now, the studs for the chrome trim are gone. What is the best way to replace these studs? Rivets? Screws? Or weld in new studs (where do you get these studs?)?

Wipers ask Frank how he did them on empty nest. For the rear window you can use a stud welder for pulling dents and get the correct weld on studs. Don't know where to get teh studs

Yea, Frank hasn't been very helpful in revealing his secrets (I don't blame him), but I can't say that I haven't tried to ask him. I am not sure where to get the studs either, but yes, using a stud gun is an option, assuming I can figure out where to get the studs. Thank you.

Oh really? That sounds much easier. Much appreciated if you can find it!

AWESOME! That look just like what we need. Thanks for taking the time to find the link for me. I appreciate it!

This is why I love this site... If one person doesn't know the answer, then the next person might...

Can anybody else help out with the other questions? I'm trying to get as many answers as I can before monday because I need to make a few phone calls and get these parts on the road as soon as possible. Thank you.

cooling...

not sure how much the summit radiator is, but i used the becool eliminator series direct fit for 69 camaro from Jegs for $299, and added the dual 11" flex a lite fan setup. it keeps my BBC nice and cool in my 69. hope this helps.

Thank you for this thought. The summit radiators are only 10 bucks cheaper.... I would much rather spend an extra 10 bucks for a BeCool radiator.

If you don't care about less room for a glove box all that much I have a solution for the windshield wipers that really works. It is the first working electrical item on my car and it was the easiest installation I have done that was a total modification from stock. It puts it on the inside and you will never see it in the engine compartment . It isn't any more noisy than stock either. It may however not be possible if you keep the stock heater but I am not certain on that since I don't have a heater anymore.
It was done with a DSE wiper motor but a stock GM wiper motor of the same type could be gotten at a salvage yard and made to work. The DSE setup with the switch made it so easy that I am so glad I ditched the other wiper motor I was going to use. Plus the 7 speeds is more than enough to not ever need anything else other than RainX. I can get you pics. I have posted them before and others liked the idea and placement.

For cooling fans it is a big debate but I have always heard that you can get Mark VIII fans for a lot less than others and they can't be beat for CFM numbers. That is a big debate and a good kit from some of the suppliers here can make an install a lot easier form scratch in a stock application. Mine is far from stock.

Have you considered flush mount glass? Another option for you...

I'll throw in a recommendation for the exhaust. I think you'd be better off getting a vehicle-specific kit from Flowmaster for your '69 such as kit 1024. For one, it isn't much more than that generic Summit kit. 2nd, it will fit much better and is all mandrel bent which means better flow than a universal kit that you have to bend yourself. 3rd, it has an H-pipe which will make your car quieter and sound better, IMO. It will also work with those 40 series mufflers you listed.

As far as the wiper motor, I have a shaved wirewall but still have the wiper motor (DSE) mounted in the stock location and it looks good. Don't think you can mount it behind the fender. Here's a pic of my engine area:

Hope this helps some,

Jim- The motor in the glove box sounds like a great idea, but not for our application. We are retaining the stock heater and heater core, and also we were going to mount the 6-al box in the glove box. Thank you for the idea though... may use that on my 68 when the time comes.

Dave- I love the flushmount glass, but this is my fathers car and he is a big fan of the "stock" appearance (im slowly converting him though). He has already ordered the new windows and trim, and it has been a while, so I doubt he would be able to return them. Thank you for the reply though.

Andy- The best deal on the flowmaster system that I have see was to get it from yearone. The price is not too bad for an engineered system, but the system from summit is a stock replacement with pre-mandrel-bent tubing also. The only thing that it does not include is an h-pipe. I was thinking about taking the car to the muffler shop after completion and getting them to install an h-pipe for me. The question that I was really asking about the exhaust was whether or not the mufflers specified will work with the pipes specified. It is hard to get a lot of info about design from summit. Thank you also for the reply.

I am going to post some pics up later today in the project updates section so you can see where the wiper motor goes. I am pretty sure it doesnot interfere with the heater box and am most certain that it can be rotated to clear. I just didn't want to say it definately would. You will also have plenty of room for the MSD too!
Check out the updates section later tonight.

The pics are in the updates section. if you need more I can get them. If you need to know some of the details I am more than glad to help. It really was straight forward to do for me but measurements were derived by what i had to work with and can be manipulated to your liking with a differnt link rod . I chose to reuse the stock link with a cut and a weld.
