Hi,

I'm looking for options to convert my rear drums to discs. Also, I want the e-brake handle in a center console I'm fabricating. I'm not looking for something extreme and have a pretty tight budget.

I have the opportunity to buy a complete set of used LT1 brakes from a 95 Z28 including e-brake wires and lever. Everything except the backing plates and of course the conversion brackets. The parts have 16k miles on them.

What would a fair price be?
Is it the same bolt pattern?
I guess I'd need to use the LT1 hubs?
Having the E-brake mechanism in the caliper seems like a great idea for simplicity and less clutter, but I've read in some posts here that it is not working well, true?
What rotor size did those cars came with? 11.5 approx?
Will I be better off buying a baer iron sport kit instead? or an ls1 conversion?

Lots of questions, but I really want to make the right choice the first time around. I don't have the option of doing any wrong purchases...

Thanks for your time, I appreciate all answers and opinions :)

Hey Trygve,

I did the LS1 with the internal parking break on my 67 lemans. I only chose the LS1 becuase of the internal p[arking break as I didn't want to mess with the ebrake oming off the back of the caliper. I did the LT1;s on my camaro and it was very tight becuase of the staggered shocks. I can take some pictures for you tonight since I have the wheels off of the ls1 set up for you.As for price i don't know what would be cheaper?

Hi Harley and thanks a lot for the answer.

I've heard that the staggered shocks will lead to some issues on the f-bodys. I don't think that's an issue with the A-bodies though.

At least both conversions is easily doable and should be pretty much a bolt on procedure, right?

I'm not sure about price, but I have seen used 12" rotor ls1 kits go for approx $400 on here and other forums, that is w/o the e-brake lever though.

Still crossing my fingers for the $ exch.rates to go back to the summer levels :)

I don't remember what was different about the Lt1 brakes but they would not fit the reareand of my camaro. It was like the holes where on a different bolt pattern so the factory brackets would not fit my rear end. I ended up making my own brackets and just used the calipers and rotors for the camaro. On my pontiac the ls1 bolt right on and there is plenty of room for the ebrake cables and the shocks are not in the way.I think it cost me 200 for the ls1 and about the same for the Lt1 discs, just be sure the rotors are good because they are the expensive parts.

Seems like the LS1 is a better choice then.

Does anyone make brackets/complete kits to do the LT1 conversion? I have only found LS1 kits so far.

Touring-Classics sells LT1/C4 based rear kits for the GM 10/12-bolts using brackets of their own design. Baer also makes similar kits, but you'll probably be money ahead to talk to Noel at T-C.

The stock GM LT1 brackets bolted up just fine to the 12 bolt in my 65 Chevelle. I think they cost me about 45 bucks each.
