Amazing. And just 4 months ago I was paying almost $4 a gallon.
$1.53 a gallon...almost makes you excited to run out of gas just so you can get your tank filled up.

speak for yourself LOL
We dropped under $2 and I just noticed I'm starting to leave lights in less than the Grandpa mode.
We just have to keep driving like it is still $4.00...
I am for the most part. Though when I do have to take the car(normally I'm on my motorcycle) it doesn't hurt as much. We are at $1.70s and with my Marathon rebate card I save another 5%. It's great, for the last few months when I first got this card I was earning big rebates because of the price. I got my rebate cards(they send a cash card good only at Marathons to you) just before the prices dropped so my rebate now goes even further. Score!

The Saudis(sp?) love sticking it to us. Supposedly they are thinking of slowing production to force a price increase because they aren't making enough profit. Must be nice to part of an oil cartel that controls prices at a whim

$1.49 today.... Did anyone else hear Lindsay Williams say we'd see $50 a barrel back in July? I thought he was nuts.... turns out he was right.

Gas prices are a phycological way of manipulating us and seeing how we are doing economically, what we will tolerate and getting our mind off of the issue of our buying power of the dollar.
If gas prices were still $4 to $5 a gallon right now we would be so irrate about what is going on with the collapse that we would be knocking down the doors of our government. Since it has dropped like it has you have had to notice that people are not so angry and at the same time they are not paying attention to the auto makers crisis as much. If gas is cheap we just go about our everyday business and not pay attention. When it is high we get very angry everytime we buy it.
They constantly stated that the prices had no real reason to be so high until the price of a barrel went skyrocketing then it dropped like a rock for the election.
Imagine, just imagine why?
we need to get just as agry when it hits $2 as we were when it was $4to $5 and then see where it stops. No more of this gas is not as expensive as it was crap.
As Andrew said , we were raped!
People also won't be going out and buying a new fuel efficient car now to help out the auto industry when they need it the most. Don't think that wasn't phycologically thought out ! were being manipulated and the auto industry is getting messed with along with us because they affect us at the bottom line, the unemployment line to be exact.
it is $1.89 at the BP station near me today.
It will be $5 by the 4th of July if we don't get ont their butt's now to keep them afraid of a riot at the capitols.

If OPEC is smart they'll keep it where it's at. I think they saw that trying to rape the American public only empowers them to spend less money on fuel by looking for alternative means, whether it's car pooling, buying hybrid vehicles or just vehicles with 36-40mpg. Face it...vehicles like the Prius are a threat to Big Oil and when the Big Three get on board with their own electric hybrids (which are in the works right now) and the Germans and the rest of the Japanese companies, their revenues are going to plummet.
I hope they got the message. You can only push the buying public so far before they react.

The big problem is that they started the knee jerk reaction to get the auto makers to close plants.
Do you think they will decide to keep the GM truck plants open now?
Will they decide to go right back to the way they were doing business when business probably couldn't go back there even if they tried? They all got hit pretty hard along with a lot of other businesses that have already failed.
We the people need to get to the TOP instead of the proverbial BOTTOM of the problem.

Enjoy it as long as it lasts...
I hear rumblings that Congress is planning additional taxes on gasoline that will boost the price back up into the $4 range. Their reasoning is that we're already used to paying $4 a gallon anyway!

We need to rumble their asses , they are the ones that are helping kill the economy. They are more than likely thinking that they can bail us all out with the money from doing it by putting it into new GREEN energy development and in reality the money will go right into the hands of corporations that will not do anything but steal it and when asked to disclose what they are doing with the money they will repeat what the banks are telling us they are doing with the money we just gave them and congress will still do nothing.
They act like they can't prosecute or tax the people that have been stealing the money from us but they can think of taxing us and putting us out of jobs.
The easiest way to get their phone number to call them is to just google the words
" Congressman" and add "My State and City"
they make decisions on 80 phone calls to them when they get a lot of phone calls. They get more calls and petitions when they want to parole a convict.
CALL CALL CALL CALL
Get off of your procrastinating complaining asses and CALL before it's too late and you really have something to cry about when you personally get effected by this!!!
We don't have until the new congress, senate and house of representatives get there. We have to do it now before the ones that are there leave nothing left to save.
There are still a few good ones left but hey need help !!
It doesn't do one bit of good to tell others about it you have to CALL THEM
WHEN WILL AMERICANS GET IT !!!!!!!!
and don't get mad at me . i'm just the messenger

I think a bunch of that is reduced shipments as no one is buying anytning, and rising unemployment means less driving to work.

Maybe a little of everything. I think this past summer and our current situation has made consumers more conservative in their spending habits... partly because cant get excessive credit or had it taken away.
I think a lot of folks thought that once gas dropped like it has, that everyone would go out and buy an SUV and we've seen that not to be the case. The bubble is deflating and correcting.
And if it stays like this the Saudi's are going to be bankrupt.

When you hear statements like that on pro-touring.com, you KNOW that oil prices aren't going anywhere for a while.
Nobody trusts the oil companies or most of the oil-producing countries (Russia, Venezuela, Saudia Arabia, etc., etc.), and nobody likes paying too much for something that literally goes up in smoke.
SUVs are going to be for folks with big families, folks with trailers to pull, and die-hard off-roaders for a while, they're definitely no longer the "must-have" commuter vehicle.
I sure wish Wagoner and Mulally and Nardelli had had their acts together when they went before Congress to ask for a bailout.
Taking 3 separate corporate jets and then showing up with no plan whatsoever for how to get the Big 3 back on their feet again, and no backup plan for what they'd do in the absence of a bailout, wasn't exactly an admirable show of corporate responsibility and leadership on their part.

It would have been in their best interest to have had at least been smart enough to answer my very own congressman from where I live that it was a loan they were wanting and not just to have the money given to them. They were the most unprepared group I have seen testify before congress in awhile. they got their butts smoked. who in their right mind would trust those guys to use the money wisely? Wagoner just kept on talking crap when he should have answered the question about why they should be trusted. It's no wonder everybody wonders if the big 3 have been listening to the public about what they want in cars and screwing up as bad as they have been.
I called my congressman and told him that he really needs to get them a loan just like was given Chrysler years ago and not look at it like he was giving the money to those idiots. It is the workers, retirees, suppliers and vendors he is going to be doing it for right on down to the waitresses that will end up losing their jobs in the diners near the plants. Loan them the money and put restrictions on it and watch them with full disclosure constantly.
When I saw my congressman go after Bernanke recently I had to be glad he was my congressman and was amazed that he was making sense and being demanding along with making Bernanke look like and idiot in front of the people watching.
I am praying that Congress takes my congresman lead and all stay until this crap is worked out.:fingersx:

They probably won't go out and buy a new gas saving vehicle of any kind either with the banks hiding and lying to eveyone about what they are doing with the money they got and the lending practices that are going on .

I just passed a wal-mart with $1.43 w/ 10% Ethanol. $1.65 for 100% fuel.
I still don't drive anymore than I was when it was $4.00/ a gallon but it sure helps my pocket book!

It was just $1.37 in MO. I still don't drive anywhere NEAR what I used to. I plan my trips, drive slower, and put off little errands and things that are not really important. It's also had an effect on tightening the household belt... we eat more at home, let the letter carriers pick up the mail, all kinds of little things. It would take a LONG time to forget $4.00 / gallon, even if it never came back! On another note, SEMA sent me this link..

Easy way to get the contact info for your representatives. Let 'em know you're still afraid of the $4.00 gallon nonsense. And tell them how you feel about the automaker bail-out.

What drives me nuts is that the gas prices in Utah, where there are quite a few refineries, prices are still $1.70-1.80. It cost nothing to ship to local stations, that should equate to the lowest fuel prices.
Does not make sense to me.

My bet is it stays locked in or goes down on black friday even more so it gets people out to buy something.
