Ok, I just got off the phone with Jesse at wait4me and am really confused. I have a LS1/4L60E that I put in my 1979 Malibu with a painless 18 circuit interior fuse block. The computer has a park/neutral position switch wire that needs a ground signal when in park or neutral. I have a B&M megashifter that has a switch that has the keyed hot (12gauge purple) that completes the circuit when in park or neutral and interrupts it when in gear or reverse. Jesse tells me that I need a relay for that switch, but I checked the B&M and Painless directions and nether has anything like this listed. I have it hooked up by both manufacturers instructions to a tee. Jesse then tells me that I need the park neutral hooked up from the computer in order for the computer to shift right.
I don't understand how to hook this up due to the switch being a interupt for the keyed hot and where would the ground signal come from with my setup?
I also don't understand why the computer would need this to shift right since the neutral safty switch is there so you cannot start the car in drive or reverse. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not completely familiar with the newer systems, but I do know that modern vehicles usually have the safety on the transmission, instead of in the shifter. So, if the cable snaps you cannot start the car in gear.
I am thinking that the computer need to see that the shift linkage on the transmission is not in park or neutral (ie. actually in gear) or it won't engage or shift right.

FWIW, I don't think you need the switch in the Megashifter, I think you should be using the switch in the connector on the transmission.

Hope that helps.

He is refering to the factory GM neutral saftey switch on the side of the 4L60E. It is called a Manual Lever Position Sensor (MLPS) It is used on 1997 - up GM vehicles that have 4L60-E. If you are using a factory ECM and wiring harness, you will need to use the MLPS. You can pick one up at any GM dealer, part number 24229422. If you are using a PCS or Compushift, you will not need the MLPS, unless you want to use it for Neutral Saftey and Back up lights. If you need more details, just let me know.

Thanks,
Mark .

Hello Mark-

I know this is slow in responce, but I wanted to get a bit more info. I am using the stock ecm and wiring harness with the stock 4L60E that does have that sensor. I put the floor shifter in (B&M mega) and the harness was redone and one of the computer feeds is suppose to be a negative signal to the computer from the neutral saftey. The B&M uses a circuit interupt switch when you are not in park or neutral. I was told to use a 5pin relay to send the signal but was unsure if that was the right course of action. If you could elaborate a bit on your thought process I would appreciate it. Thanks
