I am about to begin the process of installing mine on my 68 convertible and was wondering do i need to install any type of filter on the end of the vent line to eliminate any chance of gas smell in the garage or is it not necessary?

I did not install anything on the end of the line and mine has been sittnig in the garage (unfortunately) for over a month and not a hint of fuel smell.

I bought a small filter vent made for a dirt bike gas cap and installed it at the end of my vent line which I ran down through the floor of the trunk and over the top of my gas tank. I just wanted to make sure that nothing would clog up the end of the vent line and this seems to solve that problem for only a couple of bucks. It will also prevent any gas from leaking out causing unwanted fumes in the garage.

Here is a link to the one that I bought but if you do a search on Google for "dirt bike gas cap vent valve" you will find many other places to purchase them.

so why wont mine fit properly? i cant seem to get the rubber hose to bend enough so that the part behind the cap( the aluminum peice with the vent hole) to align flat againt the sheet metal? i spent 4 hrs trying last night and gave up.

When I installed mine, I first attached the filler tube (part with the vent hole) to the gas cap housing using the supplied bolts and gasket. Than I worked the filler hose onto both the gas tank lip and the filler tube. Make sure that you have the two clamps on the hose before you slip it on. I found that getting the hose on was the hardest part of this install.

okay i got it on, i had to do the same, attatch the filler tube first ( i wish there were 2 gaskets one for the cover and one for the tube) then lower gas tank down and force in the rubber hose

I did a search on ebay and found a bunch of vent filters on there for anyone interested.
