Hey guys,
Cant add on to the garage this year, so I was wondering if it would be alright to store the body of my car in one of those "car ports" that you can buy from costco with the sides on it. I need to start assembleing my frame and everything and just dont have the room.
Im worried about moisture and the body rusting, my floors are perfect and dont need replaced. Thank it will be a problem if I put it out there for a few months? If so any tips on this?

if that is your only option, I would place a tarp under the body to keep the moisture from coming up through the ground and attacking your metal. Also I would raise it up as high as I could get it so that there is more airflow and ventilation under it. I cringe when i see people that have their car parked out on the lawn for sale, new or old, cause I know its just destroying the undercarriage

The shell is on a body cart, maybe 2-3 feet off the ground

If it gets below 46 degrees you get condensation and whether it is in a garage or outside you will get rust. All of the previous suggestions will help the most and if you really want to cover it make sure it is a breathable cover, plastic over the top of the car is not going to help it and will make it worse than being in the open. Sunshine can be your best friend in zapping the moisture off of the car both inside and out.
I keep my garage heat at 47 degrees minimum and have no rust problems ever since I learned the magic number for the heat.

Snohomish, WA? Ah, another man in the land of WET!
Those Costco carports do a good job of keeping the rain out, but condensation is your enemy. Does your shell have windows that you can roll up? If so, you can put a Dry-z-air deccident (sp?) moisture catcher in the car to keep the condensation from out of the inside.
As far as the outside goes, as mentioned before, lay down some heavy plastic under the shell.
When we get a Chinook week of nice weather, open up the Costco structure to air out.
And I almost forgot - watch out for mice and squirrels trying to make a home in your shell - especially if it still has the upholstery or interior!! Stuff steel wool in any opening to keep them from nesting.
Best of luck, and hope your project comes back to life in the spring. :spank2:

Hmm, then maybe it will just be better to keep the car nice and warm in the garage untill it starts to get a little bit nicer out. seeing how the rainy season is here. Dont want to risk getting rust on stuff that doesnt have any.
