What size is the knural on wheel studs? Is it possible to change them to 12 mm without drilling the axles and rotors. Are there 12 mm studs with the same size knural as 7/16? Can I tap them out with a hammer and pull them back in with the lug nuts?

Also, who long are most wheel studs with alloy wheels? I'm thinking 2 to 2.25 inches should work.

Well... there are a few things to know before anyone could give you an answer to your questions.

1. What car ??

2. What axle are we talking about ??

3. Do you have a stud out that you can measure ??

In answer to your questions...

Yes, it may be possible to change them out without drilling, but that will depend on the interfearance fit that needs to be present for the new stud knurl diameter.

Yes, there are studs with the same knurl diameter as the common 7/16 OE wheel studs.

Yes, you can tap them out with a hammer... and you can pull them in with a well lubed nut and two washers.

I would guess that most alloy wheel studs are at least 2.25"... if not a little longer. The best thing to do would be to measure the componets being used. Measure the wheel that is going to be used, measure the brake hat thickness (or drum thickness) and measure the axle flange thickness. That way you will know just how long the knurl length should be and the total UHL needed without being too long and/or too short.

It will same you some headache by just doing a few simple measurements.

Thanks Chicane. I did knock one out and measured. I ended up calling Moser to get the scoop and bought a set of studs from them.
