When painting a car with Dupont Chromalusion do you have to first paint the car black or can you spray it over any color primer?

pretty sure it has to be black or it changes the color change effect.

You have to have a perfect black base. Any imperfection will be greatly amplified. This was used on an entire Mercedes SL by Renntech at a cost you dont even want to think about

Dupont's Chromalusion paint is basically the same thing HOK Chameleon, or PPG Harlequin. Not the actual Chrome paint that your thinking about. And yeah the black base it what Dupont, PPG, and HOK recommends.

Regarding the need for black paint underneath, that is generally recommended as giving the best result, apparently to absorb any light that gets that deep instead of reflecting it? I suspect you could paint it over anything, with a sufficiently thick application and get acceptable results. But at the cost of the paint, it is probably worth following the advice for the best results.

The Dupont Chromalusion site talks about the painting process. One thing it says is you have to use a small amount of activator along with a mix of equal parts chromalusion and some base paint thing. This makes me a bit hesitant, since I am not a painter by trade. What happens without the activator? What happens if you do not mix with equal parts of the other paint ingredient? If you buy the little presurized spray cans, how do they handle the activator question, or do they? It seems like one should be able to use this stuff without a PhD in paint.

What all clear-coat coverings are acceptable to cover the paint?

If you already have a car painted with the chromalusion (I do), what is needed to repaint it the same color; can you spray the chromalusion over the existing paint and clearcoat, or do you have to sand it off, or do you have to paint another black sub-coat before shooting again?:bsjerk:
