I have been looking for a job for some time now. I have started to think maybe i should start another business. I would like to do sheet metal only panel replacement, rust repair, body alignment, some mods and so on. I really would not like to do the actually body and paint if i didnt have to.

I have owned my own shop before selling it. I have done many hemi cuda clones,pro-touring cars, show cars, and such. Very picky about my work some think too picky.

I have a great place on the lake and would like to do it out of my house. Not sure if that would disract some people not having actually business? Would like to do one car at a time in a very timely fashion. When i say a car will be done friday by 3 its done no B.S

what are some people/ shop charging for this? Could a guy just do sheet metal work with out body and paint??Not looking to get rich.
My house is almost paid for have no other bills so i live ok. I was thinking $30 an hour plus materials billing for hours worked?? or would most want a firm price??Would people be willing to travel for good, honest, reasonable fast, quality work?

Any feedback both positive or negative would be great. I am located in Louisville ky

thanks for your time

For what it's worth.....I cannot say that I am happy or not with the quality that I received.....so here you go.

69 Camaro new full quarters, floor pans, trunk pan, driver side rocker and rebuilt inside rocker, front dash panel, tail panel......3K in labor. I supplied all the parts.

The guy is an old man and glass half empty type. Had he not been so stubborn, we could have made it easier by buying a total floor pan -vs- 2 full length. He didn't fit the quarters on and there is a flaw with the stamp that he didn't fix. He was going to paint the car, but I am going to a much more expensive and repuatable shop. And he took 5 months to complete it and complained about everything.

Oh, this is in SW Michigan.

I bought some parts on ebay and went to the guy's shop to pick them up. Turns out he has a full time business doing sheet metal for a guy who builds COPO clones. He had three shells waiting to go and another one in process. He doesn't do any bodywork. The guy brings the shells to his shop and picks them up when they are done. So I guess there is a market for it if you are in the right location and can find a couple of customers like he has. I have no idea what he charges but the work he does is extensive.

To old:lmao: I got you beat by 7 years And it feels like 20 more after doing some crap job for no money all day:Alchy: Good thing I don't drink much. I usually get 20-25 per hour on side jobs. For some reason:screwy: I can be dead tired at work but come home look at a Hot Rod project in my garage and I'm fired up and ready to go all night maybe thats why I can't get up in the mornings:idea:

Insurance collision work

Use to own a collision repair business but that industry is going down hill. How can anyone make money at 42-48 an hour??
