AMSOIL... a true waste of money... just like a bunch of the other over priced garbage that is on the market now-a-days. It's decent stuff... but there is better for the money, with less hype.

Hands-down for the T-56... do yourself the favor and go to a GM dealer and pick up some "Synchromesh" for the trans. Or... the only other lube I would even consider for the T-56 is Rockland Standards "RSG SMR" or their "RSG 400+." If you gotta have AMSOIL... their 'Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid' would be it.

As for gear oil... it would be in your best interest to stay away from full synthetics. But if you have fallen for and are stuck on using AMSOIL products... in your specific climate... I would use either their Severe Gear 75-110 (at a minimum) or more appropriately their Severe gear 75-140wt.

Hey Chi,
I'm using a M-22 Muncie four speed and was considering using the synthetic gear oil, why do you not like it in the manual trans? Or was that just in the T56? Anyway, what are your views on the Muncie oil?

Hey Carl... What up ??

Well... I'll tell you this. In my 18+ years of building and running tweaked Muncies, ST-10's and top loaders... I actually liked a mixture of Schaeffers #209 straight 90wt (with the suspended moly) mixed with 1 quart of RedLine MTL.

In my observation, the full synthetic's did not live up to the associated impact loading. They were just too thin in film strength. Most synthetics have this issue... and not just in gear boxes. A full bag of synthetic just feels... ... ...notchy, in an externally shifted gearbox. The only reason I used one quart of MTL... was to improve the shifting with 'new' brass... since the rebuild kits dont really used 'brass' anymore... it's more like "brassalloy."

I used a gallon of redline ATF because my friend down the street had a gallon he didn't need.

Carl-
In your neck of the woods...

Mid South Sales over on the 414... carries Schaeffers.

RedLine can be had at Advance, Autozone and O'Riely.
