What are the odds???

Where is my checkbook????? (and that was serious!)
Toss in either a manual trans or a Shrifter and that would be a fun open track day car or even better an open road event car...
I remember the owner too.. he had a very nice silver 67 that competed in the RSE event.. so at least he makes them drivable..

I agree with the part about the check book - the scarey part is if the whole car is pro built and it looks like it's very high quality - there's most likely a lot more than that in it. If you like it just about the way it sits you have to ask yourself can I build it that good for that amount of money? Huummmm...........

Is it just me or does every car on that site seem to be about $10K higher than normal market price? I'm not really in tune with the marketplace (and I only looked at the 1967 - 1976 Chevys section) but 40-50K for Camaros? 20-30K for a Chevy pickup? The best deal seemed to be the 396 '70 Chevelle. No flames please. I'm admitting up front I know nothing about pricing.

That hood has to go. But wow.....what a killer ride. I see he has since painted the wheels black. The previous picture shows them as brushed aluminum.

What is the odds of you finding that. I think the hood is required to clear that BB. Probably not a bad price for that car although I could never afford to buy it.

I think you could work a regular cowl hood on there.. maybe a different air-cleaner..
From what I know of that car I doubt you could build it for $65k.. or even come close. 4-link, Forgelines, hugh motor... the workmanship has to be pretty good (excelent actually) for it to win a Good Guys event..
I find if funny as hell when people are selling expensive cars like that with so little info given.. what kind of trans? Brakes?

He says 4 Baer WDB brakes but doesn't tell if that is the cheap set or good set. With previous known RSE car, I would bet the good ones. With a quarter stick and BB, I guess TH400 on the tranny. I agree way more info is needed and would definitely help sell the car. Steve, why don't you just ask him if he would trade?

Well that is closer to what I wanted than what I ended up with.. I wonder how it would do at the Nevada Open Road Challenge?? the 4.11's would have to say bye-bye for sure, at least with that trans.
What do you think that motor is worth?
If I get any more info I will post it up..
Update.. I called the owner.. nice guy, he is gonna call me back.
Brakes are the Baer Track.. 13" front & 12" back.. motor compression is only 9.5:1 so it runs on pump gas..
Gotta go, need to measure my garage..

Steve, there are no laws that say you can't turn your current car into something like that. Sell some bling, put some racing wheels on it. Install a custom thru-firewall 10-point with front tie ins to stiffen her up, some nice coil overs, etc... and you would have a kick ass and beautiful track car.
My next pro-touring project will be similar to that '68. All business, no chrome. Probably do a 1st gen Firebird next.

Yea, but this is pretty close to the "street fighter" I was looking to build in the first place.. and I like the color (and I am sick of dealing with lame paint shops)
More info..
No back seat, no AC, no heat..
Has a fuel cell, coil-overs on all four corners with a 3-link (the four link was a typo.) -- to me this car says "streetfighter" rather than pro-touring.. he said it handles very good..
TH400 trans with gear vendors overdrive. NASCAR steering column with removable wheel. Rack and pinion. Fat Man front subframe with tubular upper and lowers. No wipers and the wiper holes in the valance have been filled. However it would be easy to put wipers back on.
Get this.. 11" wide front wheels and 13" wide back wheels. I forgot to ask tire sizes. Has won awards at tow Good Guys events..
He took it to the local drag track once and "babied" it down the 1/4 mile for a best time of 11.2 (I forgot to ask the MPH)..
All original sheet metal, no rust and he is the third owner.. car used to be a drag car.
If he doesn't sell it he will put in the Barret Jackson auction in Florida. The car has already been accepted and given a prime time Saturday slot but it is a hassle, BJ charges a good amount and you have to put it in at no-reserve.
What should I offer?? ;)
Since people said they were curious about it..

The no heat would bother me not being able to have at least a defroster. I would definitely like to find out more about how the 3 link is done. Offer $50K and see what he does.

From what I know, Steve's car is worth more than $50k. Sorry Steve, but I feel like that car is a little more than yours. I'd say offer around $60k, maybe $65k on it. Great detail and workmanship is worth the price.

The 68 is definitely more race than Steve's 69 but the 69 is way more user friendly. No doubt Steve's 69 is worth more than $50K and the 68 is probably worth what their asking as well but you have to start somewhere.

Well, since something is only worth what someone is willing to spend I can tell you my car is worth $60k at this time (a shock to me).. I have an offer for it at that amount.. yikes.. I have had 3 other offers of $50k.. (about what I have in it)..
It is more than I have in cash wise so it is very tempting.. It came out prettier than I wanted.. I was sorta wanting more of a streetfighter car or a more "pro" pro-touring car. When I started this car I didn't even know about the Guldstrand Mod.. Needless to say I know a lot more now.
As for heat and air.. well I have neither of them in my 69.. I do have a cool portable defroster that you plug in the 12v then put on the dash.. very popular with the street-rod guys..
I am going to talk with the guy tomorrow again.. there is also another car I am looking at that is very nice and cheaper, but more "user friendly".. I will also be looking for that Mustang soon for PHR.
The 68 would be bad ass with a supercharger like the one on Stuarts yellow ZR1 car.. and with the added clearance you could move to a regular cowl hood.

Yenko boy.......I think your alluding to the spoiler on the front, the valance is stock, there are no modifications to it. Looks like he just modified the spoiler himself. It does look pretty kick ass. Although, I would have made the flanges on the vent openings a little smaller or tried to hide them behind the spoiler by attaching the vents to the back with fiberglass.
