What a crappy way to start the week.

There I was head'n down a 2 lane county road (50 mph) at 7 in morning on Monday. When all of a sudden, like he was waiting for me, a Buck jumps out of the ditch within 20 feet from me. Dumbass reflex made me swerve to the left into the oncoming lane. Thank goodness no one was coming that way. If I hadn't swerved I would've no doubt clocked that deer between the headlights (mine and his). It all happened so fast but as i went around I thought I missed him until i heard and load smack or crack sound. And then the car kick over sideways while in the oncoming lane with tires a squealin. The car fishtailed back and forth as I regained control and kept it from going over into the opposite ditch. Managed to pull over as did the lady tavelling 50 ft or so behind me. I got out and walked around the backend of my car expecting to find that my rear passenger qtr panel was smashed in. But as i looked in the dark lit up by the ladies headlights, there was no damage at all. That was until I looked a little higher to find a portion of an antler stuck in my roof. I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves:

Surprisingly the only real damage is to the aluminum roof support. I can live with that crack since it's a daily driver. But I'll keep my eye on it.

The lady and I searched for the deer but it must have survived, atleast long enough to run away and die somewhere else. The lady swears it looked like broke it's neck. Sucks, I got a punkin chunkin cook out this Sat that would have been nice to have some deer to cook up. Oh well.

Needless to say since arrving at work just after the accident the Bambi and Ruhdolf jokes have been unrelentless.

Alright that's it. Everyone keep your eyes open.

Damn, sounded like it was going to be much worse! When I saw your first pic I thought the antler punctured the top, but then the closeups show it didn't go through. Lucky!!

That top is getting a little long in the tooth. I would have rather had the darn thing puncture it. I can replace the top alot easier than it'll be to replace or repair that aluminum support. Not to mention it feels like it's slightly out of adjustment now. More squeeks and rattles.

How it didn't break the back glass is beyond me. It had to push it in and they pry it out in a split second. Where's the Mythbuster's fast cam when you need. I only wish lady behind me was cop with a dash cam. had to be a sight.

You're right it could've been worse, as was the case of this Z4

Wow, you did get lucky! Glad you're okay and the damage was minimal. I bagged a small Doe in my '67 Camaro about 14 years ago with minimal damage and 4 years after got an 8 point with my wife's Grand-Am and totaled it. There's a buck running around there with a severe headach!

That's crazy how the antler got in there like that. Sounds like you avoided some serious damage though.

I think I'd get that crack welded up.

I totaled an older dodge pickup once. It hit right in the corner and jammed the fender, hood, and door all the way to the cab corner. Along with the core support and of course the girlle and bumper.
That BMW is insane!! I have never seen anything like that!

Too funny. One of the little old Saabs that show up at Newcombs ranch during our Cruise the Crest gettogethers clipped a deer last Sunday. The fiberglass side scoop was cracked and had some deer fur stuck in it as well as a few scuffs along the fender door.

Sounds like the deer are hunting cars this month!

A friend of mine drives for Sheel Oil . A guy he worked with was driving a round 4 AM on the highway . He said he passed a car broke down on the side of the road., He went about a mile and saw something come from the brake down lane and hit it .He said he felt the tractor and the trailer go over it. He made a panic stop and ran around the front of the truck annd saw nothing but a bloody mess all the way down the side of the trailer. He saw a body in the road and started running towards it . He said he was never so scared he thought he ran over someone walking from the car. It was a deer he said the only way he knew it was a deer was the long legs. He took the truck back to the yard and took the day off.
